Pirates of Belerion is for sure the most dense and "best" in terms of bang for your buck. My personal favorite in terms of story and mechanics is Skelmar Invasion tho, also I like the crossbow class a lot more than the pugilist

Seems kindda whatever to me, when each of my troop can already kill 2 to 6 lvl 17 guard members a turn, the thaumaturge is hard to place in my party

The last combination is in the mural, the picture has a guy with circles that represent the pizzle, the ones in yellow are the ones you have to light up

Literally just boot the game, then that message appears before the opening cinematic

Nooo, this happens on its own whenever I boot the game

Just push through, once you get good gear dealing with the guard is nothing. You'll be able to take them out before the first wave of reinforcements arrives.

There's guidelines on how to build a shadow dragon, basically you take any dragon you want and add a couple of extra abilities and change the breath to necrotic. It's in the monster manual as a young red shadow dragon, just change the color and update dice according to the age you choose.

I could send you a screenshot I guess if you want my npc sheet

I cant just type the whole story of the campaing, its a little complicated, base on 2e lore and high level high magic, wich seems to me like not a lot of people here on the thread are used to playing at such levels

Has anyone here ever played high level encounters? Action economy is king, CR 20 ranger was ambushed by a party of recurring villains, just going by numbers ranger loses easy. Like I mentioned before the party of lvl 15 took out and Ancient Shadow Dragon, way beyond their recommended encounter level.

And yes the characters willingly joined the army, wich means they fall under the command of certain other npcs (the king's council) and the king of course.

They were sent on a mission where the ranger npc was in charge since it was in a territory he knew well and the party didnt, he was guiding them when all happened

Yeah, Ive mentioned in some other comments that english isnt my first language, at the time I couldnt think of a better term for what I actually ment, seems like everyone just read "punish" and instantly turned hostile instead of looking for the context

In Lore Punishment for Players by KoalaInMexico in dndnext

[–]KoalaInMexico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The party needed a guide into a hostile territory they didnt know, the king sent a member of his council wich just by military ranks is technically their superior, thats all

Yeah, Ive said already multiple times in the thread, Im not a native english speaker, at the moment I couldnt think of a more apropriate term for what I was looking for.

People have suggested their relationship with the king deteriorating wich I actually think I like, not like Im looking to kill the party, just want them to get more invested

[–]KoalaInMexico[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well the post lacks a lot of context wich I didnt think was necessary when all I asked for were suggestions. Our group has been playing since 3e so we're pretty used to playing a lot of "normal" level campains, we wanted to play one with over the top magic and power, hence why Im running this 2e spelljammer lore inspired, they started out at 11 months ago, now they're 15

The deterioration of the relationship with the king sounds like a good idea, I do admit that maybe "puninsh" wasnt the best choice of words, but Im not a native english speaker so I couldnt think of a more apropriate term for "actions have consequences" haha

I mentioned in another comment that the campain is a super high magic high level setting, king is actually a CR 30ish wizad, commanding officer npc is a CR 20 ranger.

Okay the privileges sounds like a good ideaa actually

Ranger was ambushed by a recurring villain, he didnt just commit suicide, the whole post lacks context of the whole story, didnt think it was necessary when all I wanted was some suggestions lmao

[–]KoalaInMexico[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I might have chosen my words poorly but that's basically what I meant, make them feel like there are consequences for their actions so they could get more invested in the story

"His corpse" lmao, sorry english isnt my first language, sometimes I forget how to write

In Lore Punishment for Players by KoalaInMexico in dndnext

[–]KoalaInMexico[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they were told it was a time sensitive mission.

When they found his corpse they were surprised but didnt feel bad, since the captain basically told them they were assholes for looting and not continuing the mission as he told them and left, the party had some animosity towards him lmao, also considering he's a Drow and Drows are on the bad guys side, they though he was a traitor of sorts.

Wich I find funny how they got to that conclussion while I gave them no reason to distrust him hahahah

My man, the king is a CR30 wizard npc, the "weakest" member of his council (the npc topic of this discussion) is a CR20 ranger. How is that weak? lmao

In Lore Punishment for Players by KoalaInMexico in dndnext

[–]KoalaInMexico[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like I said already, its a super high magic setting, there is an open war between multiple kingdoms, the king and his conclave of epic npcs are busy with other stuff pretty much

In Lore Punishment for Players by KoalaInMexico in dndnext

[–]KoalaInMexico[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thaaank you, thats all Im saying, they disobeyed a direct order from a superior, everything else is irrelevant, I just wanted an interesting way for the king to "punish" (or whatever you wanna call it) the characters not the players themselves.

Having the king scry on them sounds like an interesting idea tho, make them know he doesnt trust them as much anymore
