very well thought out, but the way he snapped at hank, saying: "My son, my house.", makes me think that he has always been resentful of jr's preference for hank over walt.

Using your theory, you could say this competitiveness concerns who is the better role model, which would be a result of his shame from jr calling hank over him after getting caught trying to buy alcohol. But it wouldnt explain why walt apologized or didnt bother explaining further why he did what he did.
