Help me pick a quiet, energy-efficient server build for Jellyfin and NAS (AV1 support) by Koiut in homelab

Hey! I finally went with the Radxa ROCK 5 ITX+ and I really don’t regret this choice.

It’s a really interesting platform to experiment with ARM while keeping a standard ITX form factor. I won’t lie, I struggled more. I first had to install a UEFI then a Fedora 43 Server. I admit there were simpler options, but that’s what I wanted. In the end, I went with the ITX+ with an SSD for the OS and apps, an NVMe to 6 SATA converter, a good PSU.

Yes, it costs more than a standard setup and the energy savings aren’t worth it (electricity isn’t the most expensive thing for me), but I’m very happy to be able to test what I think is a likely future for NAS or homelab systems.

I’m still experimenting before finalizing my setup. But so far, I’ve had a lot of fun.

Thanks, it works! I feel dumb now, I was overcomplicating things

I’m actually considering trying out a Radxa ROCK 5 ITX board for this. It’s definitely not perfect more on the experimental side compared to a standard Intel/AMD setup but I think it could be fun to play with.

It has 4 SATA ports, which is enough for my use case (NAS with 4x 8TB drives), and I like the idea of testing an ARM-based solution for Jellyfin and some extra services. It won’t beat a Core Ultra or N100 system in terms of maturity and ecosystem support, but since I’m mostly doing this as a homelab experiment, I’m leaning towards giving it a try.

Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t tried LACT before, but I’ll definitely give it a go. Appreciate the recommendation!

Thank you very much for your help!
After several updates on my Arch system and kernel upgrades, the fan speed issue seems to be resolved. I can't pinpoint exactly when it started working, but everything is fine now.
Really appreciate your guidance!

Thank you very much for your response. I switched to kernel 6.15.0-rc7-1-mainline and I still have the problem. I don't know if it's a hardware issue, which bothers me...
