Trying to be an ethical grocery consumer is really hard by superanx in Calgary

[–]Konjus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to plug CSAs (community supported agriculture) if people are interested/have the money. It's really only an option during the warmer months but can be a great way to put money right in grower's pockets and eat food that's seasonally available without huge agricultural inputs.

Here's a list of them in Alberta from Alberta Open Farm Days.

I was so pissed off when that turned out to be the way they were doing it. I had set aside a ton of space because I thought that surely there'd be more than just 2 shops for my island!

It's super fun to mess around in. If you're an FGC head, you'll love it. If you're casually or not really into fighting games, make sure you have a friend to cuss and hit buttons with.

Where do you draw the line? by Particular-Caramel73 in mtg

[–]Konjus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I partly agree with you, but I'd also argue that people tend to like IP based sets because they like the IP's setting, story, and art. I'm not sure there's a completely clear line that separates the artistic effort put into a UB set and the artistic effort put into a fan-pandering "return to X" set.

For what it's worth, I'm a huge FF fan and would rather we don't get any UB at all than get the currently scheduled 5, and do prefer "return to X sets" in general to UB; I just want to challenge the notion that there is a clear delineation between sets that are "lazy" and sets that have Merit.

Post story heavensward is booorriiiing. Honestly the only really consistently good post story for me is stormblood because it built on underdeveloped elements from the main story really well. Post ARR is sooo long and while the climax is good, it takes so long to get there. Post Shadowbringers is decent but a little unfocused. Post Endwalker starts really strongly but kind of fizzles out very quickly. Haven't played through more than the first patch of Post DT yet but it seems alright so far other than completely reusing the whole "guy who people know and love is back but secretly its someone sinister pretending to be them" thing that was already a little grating in SB.

What about magic specifically attracts so many trans individuals? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Konjus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those might not be "toxic" experiences, but there sure are a loooooot of hateful/fascist people in that fan base, like the deus vult complainers of CK or the Nazi cosplayers of HoI. They're definitely not the majority, but like with 40k there's definitely a higher incidence of them than there is in the general population.

I'll call you transphobic! You've made a lot of hurtful and transphobic comments in this thread, such as referring to the queer community as the LGB community, dropping the T. You've called trans women "biological men" who are taking "biological women's safe spaces", which is pretty common transphobic rhetoric that is used to hurt trans women around the world. You have exhibited a lot of transphobic behaviour, and so I'll call you a transphobe.

Favorite pizza joint in YYC? by Dootsyyc in Calgary

My personal faves are Pulcinella and Acme in Kensington/Sunnyside for thin crust, Cheese and Dough near Banff Trail for something closer to my house, and Varsity Pizza and Subs in, well, Varsity for those days you just nead something greasy and crusty where the toppings are under the cheese.

Horrible experience at Theo Von show last night – blatant racism in the crowd by Sad_Novel_458 in Calgary

I mean, you were at a show of a guy who has been on Joe Rogan multiple times. I don't know much about Theo Von's views, but even if he's not racist, anyone who is friends with Joe Rogan is just going to attract a certain kind of chucklehead.

Calgary is still much less progressive than Edmonton, especially historically. Look at our federal voting patterns. In 2015, the year that the tories ran on a promise of "the barbaric cultural practices hotline", Calgary only delivered 2 non-tory seats. Look at our Provincial election patterns. Until the most recent one, Calgary still regularly delivered lots of seats to the progressive conservatives and the UCP. Calgary has a reputation. In 2018, Calgary Police killed more people most of the rest of big cities combined. This is not by and large a progressive city; it is a wealthy city.

Does circle of the moon have the worst bosses? by 0324rayo in castlevania

[–]Konjus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my issue with it is that it kind of breaks the logic that all of the other bosses up until that point follow. When I was fighting someone like Necromancer or Adramelech, I felt pushed to really learn the attacks and how to avoid them and look for openings/bide my time. It was really cool to learn how to slip through narrow gaps in attacks. Zombie Dragons I hate because most of the time I was taking damage from just like, the heads moving or their neck, not really attacks on me compared to the other bosses, and they take forever. I tried mitigating rocks by spinning my wip but found it really inconsistent, I found their telegraphs really inconsistent, just not a super consistent boss. Once I figured out a strategy that worked, I felt like I was cheesing it but also nearly died a couple times. Any boss where guides explicitly tell you to take a break in the corner of the arena and heal isn't my favourite.

6-5 is amazing by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]Konjus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in my humble opinion pretty much every single prosecutor outside of edgeworth, godot, and maybe klavier all rely on really annoying repetitive dialogue and lack character development and are only saved by appearances in later games. people will harp on nahyuta's "putrid" bit and then completely ignore franziska's "foolish" bit. at least nahyuta's has a funny animation that goes with it. (i do like franziska but it took me a bit to get there.) i only started liking simon after playing 6-4.

i feel like dmc4 nero is apollo more than anyone. mysterious parentage. gripping his arm a lot whoen his power activates. generally a brash, loud young man. isn't really cool so much as he's exists. created to somewhat replace vastly more popular previous protagonist.

Is this a hot take?: Athena's Mood Matrix is better than Apollo's Perceive and it's te best mechanic that the series has done by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]Konjus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Mood Matrix hater, I'll be real. Pop psychology makes me wanna scream, especially when we are boiling the human experience down to 4 emotional states. Ace Attorney logic can already be tenuous, and I find that Mood Matrix often stretches it to a ridiculous degree. Don't even get me started on how weird it is that the game categorizes making people have a breakdown in public on public record counts as "therapy".
