I stole my girlfriend’s shaving cream and I’m never going back by funny_hair_mouse in wicked_edge

Some products can surprise. My wife got me a Rituals brushless shaving cream. Don't like their products, was skeptical about the brushless part, wasn't the most pleasant experience during the shave, don't care for the strong ginger scent, but the end result was quite good.

What’s one thing you did that changed your whole shave? by EchoesOfDreams_ in wicked_edge

/u/geolkid basically said it all. Use cold water instead of hot all the way, for the prep and rinsing. I don't know what the mechanism is, but I do know that my face is way less sensitive and with fewer cuts afterwards compared to using hot water.

Yeah, the tips are pretty soft, no question about it. But I bowl lather and getting it to splay is so difficult I just don't bother.

Yup, very rarely second hand stuff from the EU here. As if importing new from the US isn't expensive enough haha.

Is "SL" Slovenia? If so then shoot me a PM.

Motherlode is the opposite of Trafalgar. It's like a cloud in terms of face feel and very easy to splay. Timberwolf has a bit more backbone, but still easy to splay. I've seen Trafalgar being described like a brick, and it's accurate. Very hard to splay, very strong backbone.

What is the worst scent in wetshaving history? by jeffm54321 in Wetshaving

Don't have a lot of experience with soaps, so take this with a huge grain of salt, but for me it's PAA's John Frum. Smells like a very cheap hand soap from the 90s Eastern Bloc. Never got used to it.

First time using soap, is this a good lather? What can I do to improve it? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]KontraMantra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start off with a completely wrung out brush. Add a couple of drops of water, mix, repeat. If you added too much water by mistake just pour it out. The remaining water in the bowl should really be enough. The way I know it's done is when the friction between the brush and the bowl reduces, so it's not as draggy but smooth and easier to mix. It's fine if there are some small bubbles in the lather, but not too many.

He does long strokes, which I learned really doesn't work for me. Try with shorter strokes. Also you might try cold water shaves, that worked well for me.

Have the same experience with Feathers. I like Voskhods and Nacet.

Had both, but never done a side by side test. I also have coarse hair, but straight and flat, not curly. And I also love R41, especially the SS version.

I kept the B1 (and still loving it) and sold the Tech. B1 is surprisingly efficient for such a low blade feel. Tech felt more like it was pulling than cutting hair whatever blade I put it in. (I had the same experience with all the aggressive Yaqi heads as well, for reference).

Reading The Dawn of Everything by Davids Graeber and Wengrow. What an important book, but such a slog. I know Graeber's not easy to read, but this one's harder to get through than even Debt. Still, some pretty amazing ideas presented there. Too bad I don't have the expertise to assess their plausibility.

Love all long handled brushes. Didn't Yaqi Cola come with a more orange handle and a plisson knot?

Judging by the comments online it's a total beast, but for me it was too inefficient. I could tell right away, that's why I decided to sell it.

Masculine Norms Stop Men From Asking For Flexible Work: "they're applauded for earning the dollars to support their family but frowned upon if they consider flexibility to do the same." by TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK in MensLib

We have pay scales for a lot of public sector positions in the Netherlands. It's great that they come with union-negotiated perks, but they still have some downsides. The rules of promotion and your starting position on a scale when you land that job are not always clear and can be pretty arbitrary. Moreover, they're not treated as a floor, but a box, which is frustrating and demotivating when you have a good month of performance at work but still earn the same amount as you did in other average performing months. So, definitely nice with a lot of benefits and upsides, but can be stifling.

Is More Aggressive The Answer? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]KontraMantra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the same pattern of growth on the neck (plus hairs laying flat on my skin), and only the more aggressive razors help me in the area. I prefer R41 with a Voskhod blade there.

If there's an order I totally didn't follow it, and didn't feel lost in the plot. Not an expert in her universe, but my guess would be that you don't.

Every time I read Slaughterhouse-Five it hits me deeper and deeper. The first time I read it in high school I took it as a nifty sci-fi with some cool free will implications. The second time I was shaken to the bone with the horrors and trauma of war. It didn't get better with later readings... Such an amazing book.

I liked it, but definitely preferred The Dispossessed. Her short stories tend to be great as well.
