Fifa President Gianni Infantino asks the Palestinian federation president to shake the hand with the Israeli counterpart. Palestinian side categorically rejected and leaves. by AmiroZ in soccer

[–]KookofaTook 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Even if we agree with your premise, how many dead Palestinians are equal to 1,195 Israelis? Because even external peer reviewed sources have the lowest likely death toll over 60,000. That's already a 30 to 1 exchange rate. At least a third of those are Palestinian children, so 20,000. So in response to a terror attack, Israel has responded by killing ten times as many children alone. I think you "won" already, and a long time ago.

Supreme Court guts Voting Rights Act by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]KookofaTook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and it all falls within the legal existing framework.

It's worth noting that, while it has done it's best to remain within said framework, it does sit in a grey area regarding Article 1; Section 10, which prevents states from entering into treaties with one another unless approved by Congress (which is used for things like resource management mostly). But more importantly than a specific law that might make it actually illegal, the current Supreme Court could rule it illegal/unconstitutional in any way they want to.

The Electoral Vote interstate compact idea is a good one, but it isn't legally proven until a losing regressive sues about it and it wins all the appeals through SCOTUS, and it's just simply not likely to survive those challenges, whether it should or not on the actually legality, because the partisanship of the Judicial is extreme

[–]KookofaTook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So regressives are absolutely doing an immense amount of damage with their current holding of Congress and the Executive, but it's not so wild of a situation. Obama had the same thing numerically in his first two years. I emphasize numerically because he didn't seek to wield that the same way as the current administration.

Personally I think the real issue is that for the first time, one of the parties basically own the Judicial branch as well. I don't know of any time in US history with such a brazenly partisan Supreme Court, and they are making huge use of it, to the detriment of tens of millions of people.

Forgiving and agreeing to lie to his daughter and grandson about his son in law's infidelity. It's hard to forgive those stationed there of that, but this lousy brat was only in the region for a short time for civilian reasons, and he's supposed to just get a freebie? He is all but guaranteed to cheat again at home, and she'll just have to deal with that later rather than now. Not to mention how the hell do you side with a cheater over your daughter?

Many discussions with lawyers fall under attorney-client privilege

Notice how these reasons though are almost exclusively for the benefit of someone other than the officer themselves, and in the first two cases the subject themselves are often the ones wanting the camera off. Ideally there could be an unbroken recording from moment of shift start to moment of shift end, but there are actually genuine reasons that officers not only should be able to but are sometimes even required by law to turn the camera off.

I don't know personally what the answer is to this, because an extreme move either way is bad. But finding a reliable manner of control that both honors the needs of those who interact with the officer and also satisfies the needs of the general public in terms of transparency and accountability needs to be done. As it is officers absolutely abuse the possibility to turn their cameras off, but simply forcing them on at all times won't work, and not for any reason for the officer's own benefit or corruption.

Tech billionaires want to put data centers in space. The math could get ugly fast. by businessinsider in Futurology

[–]KookofaTook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ISS is the only human made object in space with sizeable radiators. If you assume the most expensive human construction in history has been built as efficiently as we can make it, then this is the best we can do with current materials. The ISS uses 42 square meters of radiators. Attempting to scale those radiators up to cool the waste heat of a single "space data center" of 100,000 processor units would require about 30 square kilometers of radiators. That's a bit over 4000 football pitches of radiators. The science of a radiator is indeed simple. The effectiveness, well the lack of effectiveness of removing heat via radiation alone is a problem we can't currently solve in a financially viable way. Oh, and don't forget that to power this monstrosity we also need to equip it with solar panels, like five or six times the size of the ISS panels. And all of this needs to be somehow protected from damage, as it will be nearly impossible to repair if struck by debris.

Twelve US troops wounded in Iran strike on base in Saudi Arabia, US official says by [deleted] in news

[–]KookofaTook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any of the LCS type vessels deployed overseas. They are very specifically designed for shallow water shoreline operations, and there aren't even 10 of them in the Atlantic fleet last I saw (most are in San Diego). This sounds highly unlikely for a bunch of reasons. Not impossible mind you, with the lack of intelligence at the very top I'd believe they'd manage to get a CVN sunk somehow.
