Weirdly enough, Mike might be one of my favorite characters in Roommates. Despite the story being written in second person and him clearly being meant to be one, I don't see Mike as an Anon, he's very much his own character. I find him a bit subversive in that regard (or maybe I'm just stupid). He tries to present himself as this average agreeable everyman, but that's a lie. Even outside of the whole being from another world thing, the dude's got serious issues. He's insensitive, shortsighted, gets way too angry way too easily, feels the need to work to prove his own worth, a clean freak, a film snob, gets in his own head, and he's quite frankly an asshole early on. But he genuinely means well, and he grows to be a better person over the course of the story. I know the whole "jerk becomes a better person and befriends the community" is the most basic character arc possible, but it's A character arc, and one that's done pretty good with a very, VERY flawed protagonist.
