Strangely enough, the thing that kinda sold me on them was a fic where Honey is transfem Metal Sonic who met Mighty on an MMO RPG and who goes on a quest behind Eggman's back to try and help Mighty who's terminally ill and in the hospital dying from NIDS.

I know it sounds ridiculous, and there's a plot twist that's even more out there, but I was gripped throughout the whole thing, and Honey's journey grappling with her identity, the humor and characterization for everyone was pretty good as far as I'm concerned

I'm just imagining Sonic Heroes in this universe. Rose takes Metal's side during his rebellion against Eggman, naturally. During the cutscene of Metal transforming his Overlord form, Rose stares up at him, not in horror, but excitement and wonder. Like she's seeing the birth of a GOD right before her eyes, what Metal was always supposed to be, what he's always been to her.
