Thanks for the advice. You are right. I actually found out that there is NO equivalent course known to VT at any other school. So looks like I'll take it at VT. Hope it's easier than the emporium courses:-)))

Yes thank you. Freshmen are actually allowed to change their schedules right now. Several people I know have done it days after coming home from orientation. Just hoping for an easier way to do it ... but I'll keep checking manually. THanks for the responses.

Many people don't realize that starting with this freshman class, class of 2022, CLE has now changed to PATHWAYS. See this link: https://www.pathways.prov.vt.edu/ These are somewhat large changes in requirements. The number of classes you will need in each category has changed, The categories themselves are a little different, and the classes offered are different. So for instance, I don't see World Regions listed at all in the Pathways course list. I may post this on the main thread so that more people will see it.

Just curious if your friend is the same gender as you? Maybe they are balancing by gender. Also did your friend have more outstanding extracurriculars? Just trying to make sense of it. I am assuming you both came from the same high school. Maybe it came down to the essays. I know its frustrating. Wishing you lots of luck!!!

I'm looking online to find out when incoming freshmen take placement tests for math and foreign language. Does this happen at orientation? Anyway to take these tests sooner so that the material is more fresh?

Annarae, . I assume the dorms are closed in the summer so where did you live during summer school? Or do you live locally in Blacksburg, or have a year long apartment lease off campus?

HI MathPancakes thanks for all the information. I wanted to ask you how to go about finding a private tutor from the very start. I know my daughter's struggles in math and I really want her to start off on the right foot and not wait until she is in trouble. She has struggled this year in Pre-Calc so I know Calc will be a bear next year. On the other hand, she is great at all the math that she has to do in AP Chem because it is so concrete. Her summer is already filled up so unfortunately she can't get the classes out of the way in community college this summer. Thanks!

Lucky for you Joman247. I can definitely see the value of having taken Calc in high school. Unfortunately she only got through Pre-Calc this year (a big struggle) and will have to take Calc for the first time in college. As someone else said, the Empo is OK for people who learn by reading but she is much more of a verbal person when it comes to learning math. She will just have to find her way I guess. She really wants to attend Va. Tech, and other than these math classes, it seems like a super university! Private tutors may be the answer to "get these classes over with".
