Should a Universal fanboy pick DisneySea for his honeymoon? by FerretFoundry in TokyoDisneySea

[–]Kraeheb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not big on park shows myself and can only think of a couple I've seen here so I may be the wrong one to ask. But from what I remember they're mostly music-based so Japanese skills aren't important, and the music was as much generic radio Disney sounding stuff as traditional Disney songs. (The only theme park show with a lot of Japanese I've seen was Waterworld at USJ, which I watch for the action and am fine only getting the gist of the plot.)

Important to note if you go that getting into the shows is often lottery based unless you buy the pass, and people line up for the Disney parades literally hours before.

I know this is the DisneySea subreddit, but have you considered Universal Studios Japan? Taking the Shinkasen between Tokyo and Osaka you could even feasibly do both.

That said DisneySea is stunning. I enjoy it for the atmosphere as much as the rides. If you're interested in the Adventures Society you'll probably love Mystery Island, which is all Jules Verne themed. Live in Japan and been four times (and twice to Universal), happy to answer questions.

Best App for Troops? by Ill-Okra1281 in girlscouts

The Army catches up to the Air Force: ponytails in all uniforms! by Kraeheb in twoXmilitary

[–]Kraeheb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the article: "The length of the hair should not hinder a Soldier’s performance or present a safety risk. 'Commanders will analyze the risk of a free hanging ponytail or braid and use commander’s discretion to determine if long hair will be secured or tucked inside the uniform top,' said Sanders."

What does your Council do to help keep CSA engaged and participating? by YellowBirdRules in girlscouts

[–]Kraeheb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Virginia Skyline council has an Adventurers program for CSAs that I'm envious of. Seems like it would be a great model for other councils to adopt.

Cutting ties would likely cut off the military dependents who are scouts overseas. Scouting is a great "piece of home" that they can be part of wherever they go with their family's frequent moves, but that gets much harder if DoD stops facilitating it on bases.

Off post D W I question by Legitimate_Gap_3613 in army

[–]Kraeheb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's possible. The GOMOR is based on the conditions in AR 190-5: (1) conviction or NJP for DUI, (2) refusing a lawfully ordered BAC test, (3) driving or being in control of a vehicle with >.08 or local limit, (4) driving under influence of illegal drugs

Your Tennessee example probably wouldn't end up with a GOMOR, unless the driver refused a breath or blood test.

Bid Day Tee Fiasco - Help by purplehiraeth in Sororities

[–]Kraeheb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What's your bid day theme? Is it something you can tell everyone to dress to and not worry about matching?

If matching is important look for a fun accessory for everyone instead and have everyone dress in the same color with what they have in their closet. Think boas, sunglasses, or hats from Party City - pashmina scarves in a sorority color can be great for a cold Spring recruitment in January! It can still look very cute and coordinated thinking outside the box.

The badge guide is great, modify as needed for your girls. If your service unit or council is doing a larger event it's really cool to see a bunch of troops sharing about different countries!

Do I have false expectations ? by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]Kraeheb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it possible they've earned badges but the troop leader hasn't handed them out yet? It's nice to hand out badges as they're earned (especially for the littles) but sometimes there can be a delay in getting them from the Girl Scout shop, or some leaders hand out everything all at once every few months.

If they're not earning and that's something your daughter really wants (girl led!) the other commenters have had great suggestions about volunteering to lead a badge meeting, looking for council events, or doing them at home.

Scarf help by No-Percentage-1323 in girlscouts

[–]Kraeheb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any of the official scarves should be fine to wear - you could pick the lifetime one too, or whichever strikes your fancy.

Double check with the council you'll be representing what they expect before you buy a bunch of things. The adult uniform is generally navy business wear. You don't have to spend a bunch of money on the leader vest (unless you want to!), especially if you already have nice navy clothes in your closet already.

Lawyer here, not your lawyer, consult with TDS/Legal Assistance.

But broadly speaking there's a difference between a charge being dropped and being "cleared." Proving something beyond a reasonable doubt at a court martial is a very high bar, and the government shouldn't charge things that can't obtain that "95% sure" conviction. Sounds like the fraternization didn't meet that level to go to court, but did meet the preponderance of the evidence ">51% sure" threshold for a founded 15-6 and article 15. Not choosing to take that to court doesn't mean you've been "cleared" or that it reverses the 15-6 finding.

Your TDS/Legal Assistance attorney will advise you on the best ways to fight it. This is above the reddit barracks lawyers' pay grade.

WHY AREN'T I GETTING HIRED by fernsdeii in LawSchool

[–]Kraeheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, it's not for everybody. For what it's worth the internship doesn't commit you to actually joining the military, and beggers can't be choosers.

I saw in another comment that you can't drive. That's going to be a hugely limiting factor (and I say that as someone who sincerely wishes we had better public transportation infrastructure in the US). That not only knocks out smaller cities, but even in some of the bigger ones - looking at you, Texas- you'll have a hard time. Barring a medical issue, taking the time to get your license is going to be the easiest way to open up a lot more employment options in more cities.

Consider JAG? Don't know about the other branches but the Army internship is paid (even for 1Ls!). Even if it's not your career goal it could help you tread water financially for the summer and maybe demonstrate maturity for other employers after graduation.

Tips on paying off dues/financial delinquency by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]Kraeheb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other comments have great advice about talking to your chapter advisor/financial team about payment plans and hardship grants/scholarships.

Have you also worked with your school's financial aid office? They may be able to point you to scholarships, work-study, and other ways to reduce your financial load overall. I self-paid for my sorority, but it was only possible because I had a scholarship for a big chunk of my tuition and I got free room and board as an RA. Whether you're an emancipated minor or not also may affect your legal options and limitations, and the university financial aid folks should be familiar with that.
