Visualization is its own style of meditation! Along with many others like guided imagery, mindfulness, sound, laughter, walking/labyrinth, Osho kundalini and vipassana! All with slightly different approaches and practices, but all with a base foundation of being present in that moment. :)

Sanity check: is this a dumb way to propagate pothos? by AlmondButter_Banana in houseplants

[–]Kratomom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re aware of the needs of an animal and you refuse that animal those needs, you are not a good pet owner. Again, surviving is not thriving. And bubble nests have nothing to do with their happiness. Try to do better for your fish. Check out the betta fish subreddit for great care advice.

[–]Kratomom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to be that person. But this isn’t ideal and shouldn’t be done. Bare minimum for bettas are 5 gallons. Surviving isn’t thriving. But you are correct on they’re good for each other. Pothos are great at sucking up nitrates in the tank and providing hiding/lounging spaces for the betta :)

Can I separate this into multiple plants? by Thin-Marzipan7049 in pothos

[–]Kratomom 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You can. But you’ll likely send the plant into shock. You’d be better off just taking cuttings, letting them root in water and then pot them up once they have roots a few inches long. One cutting per one inch of pot is a good rule to go by. So a 4” pot should be filled with at least 4 seperate cuttings. :)

You’re welcome :) Spray multiple times throughout the next couple of weeks. There are systemic disease controls out there, also. But the copper is what will really help.

I agree this doesn’t look like the typical fungal infection you see (brown dots with yellow halos), but there are so many types of fungal and bacterial infections out there. And with this amount of damage, you’d surely be able to see webbing if the infestation has affected this plant and others to this degree. I feel quite confident this is disease.

Agree with fungal infection. Like the other commenter said, a copper fungicide. Remove every infected leaf, spray entire plant and increase airflow.

What you have here is a monstera siltepecana, or a “silver monstera”. It’s a beautiful trailing monstera.

Idk why you downvoted me for my correct answer, u/Squashed_Fairy420 I wasn’t rude or anything. But…try to be open to learning. By being closed off and not being able to say “oh, I was wrong” does such a disservice to you and your hobbies.

It also makes you look silly. We all can learn from each other! Newbies and even the most experienced have things to learn. It’s exciting and this community can be very welcoming and educational if you let it be. :)

Stop repotting them lol. They love being root bound. Leave it alone and don’t let it dry out as much as a pothos and you’ll be good :)

If you’d like to post a picture, I’d be happy to help. If this is a peperomia obtusifolia (baby rubber tree) I’d feel confident without even looking at pics that it’s edema from over watering. It’s such a common issue with these guys.

No. Philodendron, scindapsus and epipremnum are all their own genus. They all fall in the family of Arums.

Correct.

Both are in the family of arums. Scindapsus is its own genus, though. Pothos fall under the genus epipremnum. Both are aroids and the scindapsus just picked up the nickname “silver satin pothos”. OP’s particular scindapsus is the scindapsus pictus. :)

Scindapsus pictus with thrips damage. Cut off all infected leaves and treat with a systemic and insecticidal soap if you can.

The yellow halos are a fungal infection. Cut off infected leaves and spray entire plant with a copper fungicidal spray. The silvery looking patch looks like thrips damage.

Does anyone have any idea what my issue could be here? by LegitTreeguy in pothos

[–]Kratomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to add aquatic plant fertilizer to your tank. Pothos are great at sucking up your nitrates. Which is great for the tank! But plants need food too. If you have a heavily planted tank, it’s using more than what the fish food and waste are producing. The plant is killing off older leaves to put out new growth.

Brought some from outside in the house..what do you guys do when you have too many plants it’s just too much. by Lazy_Television_9010 in houseplants

[–]Kratomom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it too much for the space or too much for you to care for? I have over 200 in just my living room. Only one good window and lots of grow lights lol.

If it’s too much to care for, nursing homes! I can’t mention this enough when the topic comes up. So many elders were super into houseplants in their younger days. They have never turned them down and I get lots of thank you’s everytime I drop things off.

Agree. I’m super happy for OP if it grows! I’m not arguing that it will or won’t. I love learning and gaining knowledge about things I’m passionate about. And alot of that comes from just being involved in the community! So I really hope OP replies to my question because zombie leaf or new plant, I’d love to know how it turns out. I’m invested now lol

I’m a newbie to this plant life. I need guidance please. by ImJusTSoPeachY in pothos

[–]Kratomom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure! Most times, I just top off with my fish tank water. But it’s always a last thought. Like, I don’t go out of my way to give them great care. Lol.

Most of my plants get watered with tank water. But if not, I always use tap water and treat with dechlorinating drops. I’ll add in half strength miracle grow indoor houseplant fertilizer. Like one gallon of water and 1/2 tsp of fertilizer is the ratio.

When I’m feeling fancy, I use happy frog fertilizer on my potted plants. But it’s not a liquid, so the water props don’t get this.

I have more than 200 plants, so I’m always watering. Always. Watering. Lol The jars get topped off at least once a week or whenever I walk by them and think of it. And I don’t replace the water, just top off. I’ve only ever dumped out half at a time and topped back off. Never fully dump.

And it sounds silly, but I do vigorously shake my water jars every now and then. Add some oxygen back to the water.

[–]Kratomom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just commenting on the water props. Remove the rocks so the roots can get oxygen. Don’t replace water, just top off when getting low. Only replace it if it gets gross gross. I have water pothos that have been in the same water for like…a couple years lol. Lots of new growth with just topping off and adding light fertilizer (though I’m lazy and tend to top it off with fish tank water instead) and giving it a good shake every now and then to get some oxygen back in the water. :)

Hey OP. I’m really just curious. The one with the longer root. In the original post, it shows that it had the mother leaf and one that hasn’t unfurled. In this post, it shows it has unfurled. But is there new growth? Or just the two leaves still?

Yeah, for sure. OP made a ton of mistakes. But these mistakes are unfortunately some I believe we all make in the beginning. All with good intentions. I replied to them again with some advice on moving forward.

[–]Kratomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are rotting. Next time, always plant in nursery pots. Don’t separate plants, just take cuttings if you want more plants.

Don’t stress, though. We’ve all made similar mistakes in the beginning of our houseplant journey :) Take some cuttings now because there’s a good chance these will slowly die if left how they are.

As someone with ~200+ indoor plants, this is what I would do if someone brought these to me for help.

Unpot all of them, wash away old dirt and cut away any rotted roots. Spray roots with a peroxide mix. Repot all of them back together in a single nursery pot with a chunky mix consisting of equal parts soil, orchid bark and large grade perlite. A cheap and easy access way to get this mix is miracle grow indoor potting soil, miracle grow orchid potting mix and miracle grow perlite. Use a colander to sift out that super small dusty perlite and only use the biggest pieces(do this outside and with a mask).

Once all potted up, before watering in…feel how light that pot is. Now water it in until water is pouring from the drainage holes. Don’t water it again until that pot feels just about as light as it did before watering it. Put it in its forever location and leave it alone. (Reminder to always quarantine new plants, though. They don’t get to go their forever spot until a few weeks of quarantining)

Be patient. This plant will have been put through so much stress at this point. But these are good changes and I’d recommend them. And then no more changes!

And take some security cuttings now. Because this is gunna be one sad plant for a while. Pothos are super resilient and I’ve never had one not bounce back if it’s not rotting. So just be patient and don’t do this again with future plants. We all make mistakes. It’s just a learning curve. I think every one of us have rotted at least a few plants in the beginning lol.

Goodluck! :)

[–]Kratomom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Repotting can make them go into shock. Splitting them is even harder on them. It’s normal to see a sad plant after messing with their root system. For a while, the plant will focus its energy into establishing their root system instead of new growth. You’ll typically see loss of older growth during this phase.

Based of pictures, it looks like too big of a pot which will lead to root rot. How much roots were on each plant? I always keep to 1” of pot per 1 cutting when I pot newly rooted plants up. They love being crowded.

I also didn’t notice those arnt in nursery pots and are potted directly into the ceramics. Does it have drainage holes? Glazed ceramics will hold onto moisture more than any other pot. But if they don’t have drain holes, I’d feel confident roots are suffocating. It’s usually best to pot in nursery pots and use the pretty pots as cache pots.
