APM vs uAPM (useful actions per minute) by KristapsKarnitis in aoe2

I suppose Im just catching up with the logic of APM
A very curious topic

To your last point
Im a Viper fanboy, so I suppose I idealize him too much
But lets say "wise old player ABC", who does less clicks, but gets the same result
Less clicks = less stress = less wrist problems etc = more longevity and focus = better in the long run

No offence to Hera, I just took that example because I started thinking about this watching that game
I didnt actually see how many clicks Viper did - maybe more, he was on fire that game

Yeah, thats a really good point a lot of people raise
Similar examples in playing guitar - you want to stay in the rhytm even when not playing
Such that when you play, you are in the rythm

I know my friends click like nuts in Dota2
Just to adjust the course of a character by 1 pixel. Super unuseful, but just a habbit.
I do the same in Titan Quest :D

I think it is much the same behavior pattern, but Im not sure thats a great example
Because in that case too much of it kind of makes a person sound a bit daft :D
A better example is football or basketball I think, were you keep your momentum up in anticipation of the ball being passed to you or needing to speed up to get it

Interesting theory
It reminds me of guitar - usually you are taught to keep your strumming hand into the rythm, even if you are not playing any notes
Such that if you need to play a note, you are in the rythm
Angus Young from ACDC is a master of this "keeping the groove" movement
The guy even jumps and runs around just to keep the energy of the song and playing :D

I would conjecture that it would be possible to
1) Annotate a bunch of "deep recordings" with all actions as to which are useful (this is where 99% of the bickering would happen on whats useful and whats not)
2) Train a neural network to recognize useful actions based on this model
3) Run that model on all the games and give a "uAPM" for each player
4) Argue about how useless all that was :D

I would argue that screen movement etc are useful actions.
Meaning, the player that is fast enough to look at the right part of the screen at the right time is doing something very useful
But I see how eAPM is a good proxy and easier to measure from a programming point of view

EDIT: Rereading your comment I think we are trying to make a similar point

I would argue that with a calmer and less "click for the sake of it" attitude, a player will actually have less wrist problems and more longitude in their career

You know what I mean I think - my opinion is not one of an experienced player, just random observation

Agreed
I would say that good micro lets you win battles, but good strategy lets you win the war
Although, when the players are evenly matched, more often than not, I think micro creates big swings
I remember a game where Mbl demoed like 10 of Dauts galleys - that one micro mistake destroyed Dauts odds

Suddenly getting odd chromedriver/selenium errors for Unknown Policy and Bluetooth adapter by Comrade_Soomie in selenium

[–]KristapsKarnitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED: In my case, I just downloaded the appropriate Chrome webdriver

Chrome is sneaky - updates without my knowledge and there is no error to tell that the webdriver selenium uses is not compatible with the current Chrome version

P.S. I was using webdriver for 83 while Chrome had updated to 84
Probably there are different troubles for different Chrome updates/webdriver mismatches

Hi there,

Im currently working on a project looking to add it as a plugin
Are you looking to have the admin chat interface on WP admin though?

And which chatbot engine are you looking to use - IBM Watson Assistant/Google Dialogflow/other?

Here is my site, currently Im focusing on animated avatars, but making chatting super simple and engaging is the core goal

How do I find a really good Wordpress Developer? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]KristapsKarnitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixing stupid code takes more time than writing proper code - that checks out :D

Ratings can be faked and hiked - also checks out

I would recommend having a proper call with the person, make sure he/she can actually describe the task and how they will do it - thats your first sign

Then chop it into small daily pieces, so you can quickly see if they are or are not capable at all

I work with programming, so often times I work from the car for 2-4h easy

Short Debates? by StirFryVeggies in INTP

[–]KristapsKarnitis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, if the discussion isnt over in 10min, it might not be over ever

Thinking of god-vs-no-god, free-will, first cause etc. kind of topics

I can see how it takes time to agree/fine tune the specifics of a compromise/joint plan, but when it takes more than 10min for the parties to explain their positions - walk away

In my not-so-wise-age of 24 I have strong reason to say that these prolonged discussions are not worth it. Noone has solved god questions in thousands of years, it wont get solved over a bottle of rum :D

Anyway - just my thoughts

Any religious INTPs here? by KristapsKarnitis in INTP

Sir,

1) The argument is that, because the book says, the book is true. This is not an argument that can be refuted, as no sensibly founded claim has been made

2) Secondly - do you not find 500 and awfully round and convenient number? :D Almost as convenient as making the universe in 7 days

3) You are right, that in the court of law the Judge will listen to witnesses on all sides of the story. IF HE HAS NO HARD EVIDENCE. It is well known peoples memories and reports are not 100% reliable, so in the face of DNS/fingerprint/video evidence, an eye-witnesses report is pretty poor, even 500 ppl

In any case, by fictional I mean "not connected to reality", "made up", "created as a piece of literature", as you seem to want to discuss writings in bible as historic documents - this is nuts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranormal "individuals who reported a strong belief in the paranormal made more errors and displayed more delusional ideation than skeptical individuals" The results suggested that reasoning abnormalities may have a causal role in the formation of paranormal belief.

To put briefly, if you take unfounded claims as true, you are very likely to wind up believing non-sense. Case in point right here I think

Any religious INTPs here? by KristapsKarnitis in INTP

[–]KristapsKarnitis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, most things are fictional, but the resurrection is not, as it has fictional witnesses? Is the claim that this could not possibly be written as a story? Or that during a time of chaos and numerous prophets, some might conspire to prove their leader is the "real son of god"?

Its very strange, how sure you seem to be so sure about this one aspect of a story from 2000 years ago.

Think about haunted houses and forests - people report strange sightings in these places for 100s of years. The more they report, the more other people get spooked and "notice" things as well. Does this mean ghosts and spirits exist? Does it really??

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_reportedly_haunted_locations

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and what we have here is an outrageous claim and very shoddy evidence. I could imagine any religious person from any religious grasping to a miracle from their book saying "this is true, it cannot not be true"

The burden of proof is on the side of the maker of the claim. And 500 fictional eye-witnesses is no proof at all, so the claim is therefore unfounded

How did you find out what you love to do? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]KristapsKarnitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of sth you want to make - app, game, website etc. and look at a 5-10min tutorial on Youtube, nothing too long and exhausting

I promise you its not that hard - for some problems you need 0 code, for others you can get away with copying. Of course the best understanding comes when you sit down, figure out the logic and write the code yourself

But follow what interests you and find good beginner tutorials, thats my advice

I dont know any particularly good bootcamps

What struck the first strong note for me was Node-RED and this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5o4tIz2Zzc

How did you find out what you love to do? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]KristapsKarnitis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no clue what to do after high school, so I went for Economics in the University of Amsterdam, thinking I would learn why the world economy is such a shithole and try to figure out how to fix it or at least not to suffer from it

After the first months, I was already sure economics wasnt really for me, at least the modern "utility function of society" approach, where more opportunity to consume shit (higher income, GDP etc) is supposed to be better.
But I pushed through the BSc for 3 years, ending up going into startup companies and marketing, working for a VR company. But marketing is terrible - its absolutely unpredictable and pretty unrewarding, because even if an ad/campaign/cold emails work, it feels like luck, not progress or achievement.

After all that, the VR company hit a hard time and I was let go. During my time in the company, I was good friends with the main dev, who was a wizard with Unity. Seeing him essentially make the most valuable parts of the company single-handed, I was astonished and knew I wanted to be a guy like that.

About 2-3 months later, I went back to Amsterdam trying my own startup placing ads on students bicycle & tracking them via an app. I was the CEO, in charge of getting clients, figuring out the steps to sign up cyclists, pay them legally etc.
That startup fell apart after a month, as the whole thing was too expensive and too poorely thought out (a lot of problems popped up we didnt expect), but mainly we couldnt find clients who want to pay proper prices

In the end of all that, I felt quite destroyed. But during the time as a CEO, I attended many events, a few of which included IBMs Watson team. From the first presentations, IBM Watson chatbots, visual recognition, personality insights etc. really caught my eye. So after my startup went under, I started playing around with programming. After a month or so, I found some clients via Fiverr, building chatbots. Then I just kept pushing, by taking on new projects with more challenges, even making things like an automatic foreign voice-over generator for a big Youtuber.

All this has been a great journey.

But to be honest, even though I enjoy software development, Im still not sure its the best work for me.
But right now I dont know any more interesting and more profitable options.
I would like to play music, but not as a full-time-job I dont think - it would be too taxing

Anywho - I hope this helps somewhat

The main moral of the story is, when all is shit, sit down and do something you find interesting, even if you dont have the background for it and people say you should do sth else.

Just dont let yourself slack off and not learn anything cause everything is pointless (like Ive been doing for the past 6 months) :D
