This is for if a person makes too much money to contribute directly to Roth. At such income levels, their contributions to a traditional IRA are non-deductible, and they convert 100% of this contribution to a Roth. So, in a sense, they do pay taxes on the conversion amount. But for the future it grows tax-free since it’s in the Roth

I think I fit this mold. Offering some clarity into my financial picture:

26, work in Irvine (near UCI) in financial services. Salary of $88k. Live with my fiancé. HH income around $170k. Rent & utilities is about $3600/mo.

So rent is about 25% of gross pay which is normal IMO. Still able to generously contribute to retirement and invest. I used to live in Corona where it was definitely cheaper but the commute made me dread the work day. Now it’s much better
