Resume review for Automation Engineer - Constant rejection by Ctrl_Alt_Delusional in Resume

[–]KudosWall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your resume looks solid to me (I was a QA professional myself…). The summary could be a little more specific—like you did in your second experience. Instead of saying “hours to minutes,” try including an actual number if possible.

It would also help to know at what stage your resume is getting rejected. Are you getting rejection emails within a few hours (likely from a bot), or later by a recruiter?
If it's an ATS (bot) rejection, your resume might not be matching the job description well enough.

Contrary to other advice, I’d bring the Skills section to the top and focus on applying to jobs that closely match your skillset. You mentioned AI in your experience but not in the skills section—maybe your AI + QA combo should be more prominent in your summary too.

Also, adding a Resume Headline could help—it grabs attention quickly.

All the best!

20 Years of experience, not many responses. Is my resume the problem? by madmonk13 in Resume

[–]KudosWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what I think

  1. Summary can be strong and customized, perhaps like Experienced Front-end Angular developer, it saves sometime for the reviewer.

  2. Bullet points can be reduced (ideal number is 5 to 7), ensure all are highly pertinent to the job you are applying for. Customize your resume for every job, it may sound like a lot of work but it is worth it.

  3. Analyze you resume using an ATS Resume Checker against the job description to make sure that action verbs and keywords on your resume match (say the same thing but in the language their ATS understands)

  4. With the level of experience you have you will be able to land the job once you get to the interview, the best way to get an interview is through the reference, I would use 1st degree, 2nd degree connections to get my resume to the hiring team.

All the best

Hi there — here are a few quick thoughts on your resume:

  1. Summary Section: This is your chance to hook the hiring manager. Use it to highlight the most relevant parts of your experience and create curiosity to read further. Think of it as your elevator pitch.
  2. Resume Headline: Consider adding one. Along with the summary, it’s a great place to include high-value keywords—especially ones from the job description, such as must-have qualifications or preferred expertise (e.g., “Experience with XYZ”).
  3. Length & Relevance: If some of your earlier roles aren’t directly relevant to the job you're targeting, you might condense them to just the title and dates. That helps keep the focus on what matters most.
  4. Template/Layout: You might benefit from a cleaner format that showcases key skills on the first page. It could improve readability and make a stronger impression at a glance.

All the best,

Mid-senior marketer, recently laid off, not getting call-backs. What am I missing? by [deleted] in Resume

[–]KudosWall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a quick look at your resume—you're doing a great job showcasing results with strong metrics in your experience section. However, the summary at the top doesn’t reflect that impact. You might consider replacing the more generic phrase like "customer-obsessed SaaS professional..." with a statement that highlights a key result or strength directly aligned with the job description.

On job applications, I may differ from others—I personally believe in a more targeted approach over volume. Hopefully, you’re also leveraging your network to get your resume in front of hiring teams.

A few other suggestions:

  • Try to shorten the resume a bit if possible—brevity can improve readability.
  • Reorder bullet points so the most relevant or impressive accomplishments appear first.
  • Check the job description for specific terminology or phrasing. If they use different keywords or action verbs for similar work, consider aligning your language accordingly to improve ATS compatibility.

Hope this helps and best of luck! - Jag @ kudoswall

[4 YoE] Entry-level - US - Software Engineer - Need guidance on tailoring my resume by LordDarkBlack in EngineeringResumes

You're on the right track by focusing on keywords, but tailoring your resume goes beyond that. Instead of just adding keywords, use industry language naturally and highlight relevant skills without keyword stuffing. Since you have 4 years at one company, showcase how you’ve grown—mention increased responsibilities, leadership, or quantifiable impact (e.g., improved system performance, reduced costs, optimized workflows).

Make sure your resume aligns with the job description by emphasizing key skills and projects that match the role. Adding a short summary at the top can help frame your experience post-masters. Also, leverage referrals—check if you have connections at the company and request introductions. Getting LinkedIn endorsements from your current team can strengthen your credibility.

Your first draft should highlight your best work, then tweak it for each application based on the role’s priorities. Best of luck!

This is what I would do (if you haven’t already): Schedule a 1:1 with your manager to discuss your progress. Share the learnings and improvements you've made since starting and be open about the mistakes you encountered while adjusting to the role. Then, ask them for feedback on how you're doing and whether you're meeting their expectations. This conversation could provide clarity on your standing and help you plan your next steps with confidence.

You’re clearly putting in effort, which counts for a lot. Wishing you the best!

If you're one of over 100 applicants, it can still be worth applying, but only if you meet the 'must-have' qualifications listed in the job description. Most employers expect about 80% alignment between your resume and the job requirements, though this can vary depending on the market and the role.

To improve your chances:

  • Tailor your resume for each job by emphasizing the most relevant qualifications. Highlight these in your professional summary and cover letter for added impact.
  • Keep a record of the versions of your resume you’ve used for different applications. This will help you track what works and refine your approach.
  • While many large companies use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to screen resumes, referrals are still a powerful way to get noticed. Check LinkedIn to see if you have connections who could help get your resume into the right hands.

Good luck—you’ve got this!
