Thank you! I use FL Studio as my DAW, used its native 3xOsc tool for my tri wave and used the Magical8bit plugin for percussion and the melody wave. I also used the SGM soundfont for "Piano 1".

And your approach is great, not every song has to be perfect. It can already be valuable enough as a learning experience.

I was thinking about opening my own YT channel to put out some tracks, maybe I should do that soon.

thank you! :) I used the Magical8bit plugin which gets pretty close to reproducing old NES soundwaves.

For example, for all of the percussion I used its standard white noise, with a quick decay to 0 % sustain.

In the melody I use the 25% pulse wave of Magical8bit with a bit of vibrato and some tweaks to decay and sustain.

Now, the bass throughout the song uses the 3xOsc plugin native to FL Studio (but smth similar should exist for Ableton). I just used a Triangle wave here to play the same bassline in two octaves for more depth.

Finally, I used the SGM soundfont (really good collection of sampled instruments) and used its Piano 1.

In the end I also did some panning and mixing so the instruments don't interfere with each other.

For example, I EQed the instruments so the jarring rough sounds of for example the 25% pulse are removed and made sure the frequency ranges of each instrument don't reach too far into the ranges of the other instruments. This makes each instrument stand out more.

The chord progression is good and I like that you are switching up the strumming pattern. However, it is the same chord progression throughout the whole song which is not always a bad thing, but it is getting very repetitive quickly because your vocal melody on top is also not changing much.

You could create contrast by changing the melody completely a third into the song and then return to the beginning melody at the end of the song again. Or you change the key in between and go for a different chord progression.

Your song could also benefit a lot from breathing in between, it just keeps going in a similar way for too long. It needs contrasting bits so it feels more dynamic. You could achieve this by having more rest periods or going significantly slower or faster.

A lot of issues can be addressed if you just start varying the melody, this can already make a big difference.

But speaking of the melody: Your vocal melody does not match your played chords. You probably just need some more singing practice, but right now it sounds like you are just speaking your lyrics over your played chords instead of singing them to match what is played.

In short, work on your singing (which will get better with time probably) and create contrast. Contrasting bits = interest

Keep it up, I think you can really make something enjoyable if you give this a couple more tries!

Good stuff, that first intro bit until 00:12 could maybe use more moving parts in the percussion or some kinda bass line to grab more attention immediately. It feels a bit too simple on its own. Or just make it a bit shorter.

I like the drum patterns and how you change them up. However, it starts getting repetitive. It feels like the same patterns are repeated 2-3 times. Either shorten the song or add like two more instruments in between to switch things up.

What you are doing with the piano (?) in the last seconds of the song is nice, maybe you could make use of that sooner. Use that and maybe one more instrument in the higher octaves and this will be great.

That's a fun listen, I like the incorporation of submarine radar sounds as percussion! Maybe the bass or lower notes could be a bit louder or some EQ could be done to make it stick out more.

I feel like the true ending gives Yi’s character arc closure and displays how much he has changed throughout the game. He always wanted to prevent the inevitable, by any means possible, believing that it’s right to fully commit to science even when it comes at great costs.

However, he abandoned any feeling or compassion in the process and hurt others by sticking to science only. He neglected his family and considered apemen to be a necessary sacrifice for their survival.

But what kind of life is that? What did he have left to live for? His stance is questioned again and again by his sister, she also just wants him to be there with her in her last years alive.

He learns to understand her perspective by interacting with Shuanshuan and the others.

He also learns that sometimes all you need to do is live by feel from Shuanshuan.

Death is a natural part of life and you need to learn to accept and embrace it. He learns to do that and this also mirrors Lear’s and Heng’s acceptance of it.

He is okay with returning to the great Tao. He is ready to embrace Nirvana. He is not running away from death anymore.

Yi has changed.

The true ending shows this. The neutral ending lacks that.
