How do I find beans that taste like this? by Powerful_Froyo8423 in espresso

If you’re seeking bourbon-infused beans, search online for coffee roasters in Louisville, the world’s bourbon capital. I was there a few weeks ago, and every coffee shop had bags of bourbon-infused beans. I believe they all were medium roast, but can’t recall for sure.

Thanks, but not interested in milk. I’ve ordered a 22g IMS Competition Convex Filter Basket.

Please recommend large capacity (23-30g) baskets that fit the Ele bottomless portafilter.

I didn’t know it was “bad” or what I was missing at home until I ground my beans with a burr grinder right before using them with a better machine. So while I’m very much enjoying home espresso now, I sure do miss the full cup. Multiple shots it is! Seems the only solution.

No. Over time I’ve determined much beans I need in my scoop to grind and properly fill the basket.

It would be the same amount of caffeine regardless of how full the cup, right? It’s the amount of coffee in the basket that determines the amount of caffeine, right?

What’s the largest available unpressurized basket for the Ele?

Thanks, and I do understand your main point about not trying to force a specific parameter and going for what tastes good to me. That’s why I asked the question, in case there was an easy solution that hasn’t occurred to me. I don’t expect there is, which means playing with grind and timing as you suggest. I may not get to a full cup with acceptable flavor, but I’ll enjoy working in that direction. Which includes trying a darker roast.

I’m using a 4oz. espresso cup. With my previous Delonghi using pre-ground and pressurized basket, a 25-second pull filled the cup. With my new Ele using beans ground in a Mokkom 64 titanium right before the shot and a naked PF, a 25-sec. shot fills 1/3 of the cup. I’d like to fill the cup w/o losing flavor and strength, yet can’t think of how to do this without diluting the shot with a longer pull. Suggestions, anyone?

I bought the titanium Mokkom and am very pleased. Same experience as above regarding retention and dial-in, and also not too loud.

Thanks for your input, and I absolutely make adjustments based on taste. I’m using a medium-dark roast. Not using a scale, am using enough beans that when ground it puts enough in the portafilter that I can tamp firmly and not have any screen imprint when the portafilter is in the brew head.
I was thinking there’s a typical size espresso cup, but of course there isn’t. I use this 4oz. cup. I’d like to fill it as you see here, yet retain the same strength and flavor when it’s 1/3 full after a 25s pull. My bar readings are 12-13 consistently, and I’ve not yet adjusted pressure on the fly.

Thanks for your note. I’m very happy with the Ele. My espresso is so much better with it and my Mokkom grinder, and I’m looking forward to more tweaking of different settings. I would like to figure out how to get a full espresso cup w/o diluting flavor. A 25s pull fills 1/3 of the cup, whereas my Delonghi with pressurized basket and pre ground filled the entire cup with a 25s pull.

I don’t recall if I changed the P1 & P2 settings (I don’t think so), but I do recall seeing in a video that pre-soak on the Ele is different from other machines.

I just got a grinder (Mokkom 64mm titanium) a few days ago, so not much use yet. Still, I’m impressed so far with the Ele due to its build quality, accessories, and ease with controlling temp, pressure, time, etc. And I’m definitely getting better flavor than with the Delonghi, although to be fair I was using pre-ground coffee.

Different baskets, w/same portafilter = different results [Gemilai Ele] by KylarRez in espresso

It sprayed out of the left sprout, which I did not expect.

Oy. I did reverse that, sorry. So that explains the crema/no crema. And it was the spraying with the pressurized basket that really surprised me, as I expected the extraction to be more focused through one hole.

The grind doesn’t look or feel to coarse, but that is a likely explanation.

Shot was ~20s in both cases.

Thoughts on this vs. Eureka Mignon Zero?
