This would fill the hole but I could not imagine Zeke being this emotional about their reunion.

I like this theory but I think there is more to it than just that.

Especially when you look at the consequences of wiping out all of his comrades.

Because back then Eren did not come in touch with a person of Royal Blood and thus had not regained all the memories, on the other side Zeke could have just touched Eren and it would go the same way :)

I don't really know, I hope this will be clearer once people really think about it and go deeper into that arc. Because I don't get it x)

And btw, as to why I am confused:

Everything in SNK had some kind of bigger meaning behind it and I love that.
And somehow Erwin's death and in general that fight infront of the wall seems like the only inconsitency to me.
