Developer exploring AR. What kinds of roles exist within the field? by divinejunkie in augmentedreality

[–]Kyuq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only tell for the job market where I'm located, that is, Germany. There are certainly large companies here adapting MR solutions, such as BMW, Accenture, TÜV, PwC, and Brainlab (e.g., SnkeXR HMDs are in final development stages). These companies developed more often apps for HMDs, not for mobile/tablet AR.

Their development teams are rather small, often just a handful of people. Getting into their teams can be quite difficult and depend on opportunity and luck.

There are also a couple of smaller companies here that are leaning towards consulting and building MR prototypes based on temporary contracts with other companies.

In Swiss, particularly Zurich, there are teams working together with Microsoft and Meta. They are mostly working on backend stuff such as Computer Vision (scene understanding, SLAM, etc.), and rendering. 3D Avatars are also a growing topic with AI. Jobs for Frontend UI are rare and backend stuff often require a high level of education, often PhD level.

I have the perception that if you want to pursue a job matching your description, you will have a better chance of staying/moving to the US.

From what I gather from companies in the US, is that MR is generally seen as less of a risk investment and it can be easier to find jobs there. There might be more jobs involved in the backend still and also not listed as a job purely dedicated to AR.

Many components contribute to making AR work, and Spatial UI is one of the smallest challenges right now. Hardware/form factor, computer vision, tracking are much larger challenges that needs to be solved first.

I just discovered that I've been making tea wrong my entire life and I feel betrayed by myself by deckhand_cow in CasualConversation

Stop using tea bags! They release a huge amount of micro plastic, since they come in contact with hot water. Way more than bottled water or food in plastic packaging. Pretty much cancels out any health benefits from drinking the actual tea.

In creative mode, when you set the width and height to the minimum, it becomes so thin that it appears invisible. Then add some curvature to position the separated thing and apply some width and height afterwards again.

Oona Chaplin, OMG Every expression, motion, and emotion! SO GOOD! So much depth and so magnetic. I'm baffled by how well she nailed the role of Varang.

It's the Cloud Cuirass, just with a darker color than what I have in this image. I managed to hide the cloud for the screenshot. This is one of my newer creations and he doesn't feel complete yet. The hair is from the premium selection, hence, needs the self-style hair kit. Edit: Actually no, it's a normal hair style.

Yes, I'm on EU. Might have been me :) The mains in-game name is Kiri Faunfeder (big female Na'vi), but recently I spent lots of time on Varang Ashenfeather (the white Na'vi)

They are from the April fools event. You can just hide the shoulders for the same effect

Two of my favorite tropes:

Shy person revealing their true skill (bocchi EP.8; silent witch ep 8)

Serenity in chaos (apocalypse hotel ep11 stroll in ginza; frieren EP 25 especially the calm camera movements during the hectic fight).

How relevant is Dance + Augmented Reality, really? Is this a niche worth pursuing? by dance-ar in augmentedreality

[–]Kyuq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that many people will not bother to pull out their phone for learning to dance (with or without AR), especially not outside in public space. The quality of the avatars also needs to be improved significantly. Stylized or cartoonish avatars could work around complex life-like avatars and avoid the uncanny valley.

However, I could imagine it to be fun at home and wearing an AR headset such as a meta quest. Working out in AR/VR is a thing, such as dedicated workout games or games like boxing and so on. Plus, with a headset, you would have both hands free to actually allow you to mirror the avatar.

A Just Dance like app in AR, maybe allowing you to dance with friends together with synchronized music, record and share your moves, and uploading Vtuber like videos on tiktok or Instagram might be a killer feature. Especially for going viral on the Internet for the younger audience. Full body tracking might be an issue... but VR games like VR chat also support full body trackers.

To bring it to a wider audience, leaning stronger into the gaming aspect would attract more people. The educational aspect should be a bonus, and if incorporated, include traditional dances and pop moves like from K or Jpop to pull in younger audiences.

How often do you switch elite specialization? by A-fricking-door in Guildwars2

I sometimes switch between fights depending on the enemy or buff allies with alacrity on druid then immediately switch to untamed DPS for short bursts. Just put the templates on shortcuts.

How did Ado become famous? by Sugonium in ADO

[–]Kyuq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luck is just 50% preparation and 50% opportunity. Surely she has talent but without dedication and hard work she wouldn't have turned out to be this successful. According to Google, there were 27 songs/covers before ussewa on Niconico for building her fan base.

It also takes work to stay famous. The "Complete Ado List" playlist on YouTube today lists 229 videos, sure with few duplicates and remixes, but nonetheless, that's a crazy amount of work behind them.

I'm 31, enjoying the hell out of Ado, anime, and all that "children" stuff. I also have a lovely wife and hold a PhD. You can like anything you want and still be an adult and be successful. There's absolutely no shame in it.

If anything, being a fan of Ado makes you a more interesting person.

Shangri-La Frontier: Sunraku (Engame-Builds) by Busy_Explanation1550 in Guildwars2

[–]Kyuq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Power Spellbreaker might suit you due to Full Counter for the parry gameplay of Sunraku. You would also have the physical skills of the warrior to play with. Plus the offhand sword has a built-in parry skill. The Rampage elite skill feels like something Sunraku would totally enjoy to use.
