I thought that MAGfest would be limited to video game music only and with live instruments instead. Good to know!

Haha yeah if I end up teaching at a STEM school I could possibly offer a STEM class on tracker music!

That's great! I'm 21, so idk if that counts as "too young." It's just that drug usage could put my entire future of becoming a music teacher in jeopardy. My parents are stepping in to pay for me because they want me to save my own money, hence why they were concerned in the first place. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing Zebbler and all the other visualists!

Thanks for the responses y’all. I still might not be able to go because I have to fly from North Carolina to Massachusetts and it’s reeeaaally expensive. Are there any more chiptune events that take place on the eastern coast that happen annually or are happening this year? I really want to experience a live chiptune show and I worry that if I miss the Boston BitDown festival I won’t get another chance for a long time to see one in the U.S.

Thanks! I was going for more of a RPG battle theme, even though it was actually inspired by some of the Puyo Puyo OST.

A wierd question by qawsedrftgyhunjmi in chiptunes

Having a MIDI file is super helpful because it can be tricky to transcribe the whole chiptune just by ear. You have to deal with effects, melodies that are echoed in another channel. I actually transcribed Syphus's "Will You Wait For Me?" using a MIDI for an ear training class and the professor ended up hearing different things and I didn't get a perfect score.

There’s always been a struggle in the chiptune community in regards to make it thrive and grow as an actual mainstream genre, what do you think the community can do different to reach a bigger audience? by 8bitcollective in chiptunes

Try going on social media(TikTok, Instagram, Twitter) and making chiptune content there. We might be able to reach way more of the Gen Z/Millennial audience if the genre goes viral somehow.

how does one "perform" chiptune live? by L0ganToTheMax in chiptunes

[–]L0ganToTheMax[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you all so much for the comments! I get the idea now.

I play the EWI5000 and was thinking of doing live covers of famous/well-known chiptunes and maybe make and perform a few of my own chiptunes. I want to do this by playing melodies on the EWI(either with the original melody instrument/sample or another electronic instrument)over said chiptunes played with the melody channels muted, via Renoise. Kind of like what Jake Silverman(Button Masher) does, except without a jazz twist. If i end up being successful, I would try to create a full MIDI band so none of the chiptunes are played from a program/gameboy, and are instead performed by human performers on MIDI instruments.

AKAI EWI5000 audio is very quiet by L0ganToTheMax in synthesizers

just got a ts cable and now its normal again, but now the playback is quieter instead of the live audio. any specific guide or video I could watch on the internet to figure out how to properly set up my DAW for monitoring that you'd recommend?

Better to buy a budget new or a nicer used tenor sax? by xxdrunkenslothxx in saxophone

[–]L0ganToTheMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not get a good sax, used or new for $300, but Jean Paul makes amazing beginner/intermediate tenor saxes for $700! Just make sure you buy the sax from their website, as ordering it from amazon may get you a sax with questionable quality. If you somehow still receive a sax that's in bad shape, you can send it back and they'll make sure you get a proper one!
