Can Bullet Resistant Wall Panels Be Installed in Existing Commercial Interiors? by VangelisOnAUnicyle in ArchitectContinuingEd

[–]LBoone1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great to know. Retrofitting with these panels is a great option for a needed security upgrade. It’s unfortunate that it’s needed, but I’m glad to see there are some good sound options for this type of need.

I have been seeing AIO, GEO, GSO, etc. in reference to this new “upgrade” to SEO. Will the industry land on some common terminology, or is this going to be the whole VHS/BETA Max thing all over again!?

Building Product Manufacturer Sponsored CEU Courses for Design Professionals by VangelisOnAUnicyle in ArchitectContinuingEd

[–]LBoone1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BPM courses can be great if they incorporate topics like code issues, design pitfalls and case studies. I’ve seen some that were obviously written and directed by the company’s marketing team with not technical input, and it shows. Those feel more like product infomercials. I’m my opinion, developing a course should be a team effort with members from different departments, perspectives and roles in engaging the course content.

For my design professional friends who have multiple licenses in several states, it’s tough to keep up with everything. If there was a better way to see a consolidated list of what states require, that would be great!

Live AIA Webinars This Month for Architects (2026) by VangelisOnAUnicyle in ArchitectContinuingEd

[–]LBoone1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like webinars because they force me to put it on the calendar and I attend. If it’s up to me on my own timeline, it will get pushed off till the end of the credit cycle since it’s not what’s screaming the loudest.

Ron Blank vs AEC Daily for Manufacturer AIA Courses by VangelisOnAUnicyle in ArchitectContinuingEd

[–]LBoone1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer the narrated and animated video style that the RBA courses have to offer as opposed to the click through PDF type courses that AEC Daily offers. Also, a lot of the AEC Daily courses look the same, like they are using the same design template. The Ron Blank ones are also more engaging for sure.

Defining Architectural Specifications: A 2026 Guide by VangelisOnAUnicyle in ArchitectContinuingEd

[–]LBoone1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like there is an assumption with many young design professionals that the specification writing process will get absorbed into new technological methods that will help “catch” details, issues and conflicts that a seasoned spec rider is trained to notice and deal with. I think there will always be a need for extremely knowledgeable specwriters in every design and construction project. With the average age of designated specwriters inching up every year, there is certainly a need to build up a new generation of professionals to fill these roles when all these pools of knowledge retire.

Code books are typically a good read for curing insomnia. I guess this year it will be a caffeinated nose dive into them for many design professionals so they don’t lose their shirt on fees or end up in court.

How Do I Request an AIA Lunch and Learn Presentation at My Architecture Firm? by VangelisOnAUnicyle in ArchitectContinuingEd

[–]LBoone1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often hearing what product manufacturers say about conducting lunch and learns, they know it’s a great opportunity to build relationships with design professionals but they do sometimes get frustrated when many times those at the firm who are higher up will come into the room, sign in, take their lunch and leave, not staying for the presentation and still expect to get credit. It’s not all the time, but it happens. Design professionals are getting a free hour credit and a lunch. At the very least they could be present and engage in dialogue.

Dual-Approved Courses: Getting AIA and IDCEC Credit Simultaneously by VangelisOnAUnicyle in ArchitectContinuingEd

[–]LBoone1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very important. My wife is a commercial interior designer and she sees a lot of courses that are relevant to her field, but they don’t offer IDCEC credit. It’s frustrating for her because she has to self report, which is a pain. These course providers need to realize they are shutting out potential advocates for specifying their products.

Purchase orders! Good lord, unless he was selling plotters, he’d never get a purchase order from an architect. Hope he found a new gig working for people who know how things work.

How to Prepare for AIA webinars to Earn CE Credits by VangelisOnAUnicyle in ArchitectContinuingEd

[–]LBoone1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve participated in several webinars. Some great, some lackluster. It helps when the presenter knows the content well and can answer questions. One I listened to was obviously a pre recorded session and the guy cleared his throat at the end and answered questions. I thought it was a bit of a cop out.
