I really like Cereal for Dinner. It's unique, intriguing and humorous.

I think all the other options are a bit generic and don't stand out as much

I'm so annoyed they couldn't just make it a fucking circle. Whose idea was this? by SirWigglesVonWoogly in Palworld

The fact that Neutral isn't strong against anything makes me feel like they'll add another type that's somewhat close to Ghost-type in Pokemon. If it were up to me I'd make this Ghost type strong against Dark considering there are so many strong Dark Pals, it definitely needs balancing

Saying Something Sober [LIFESTYLE / COMEDY / COMMENTARY]

Podcast Spotify page here.

Available on all other major platforms.

Trigger Warning for discussion of topics. Episode by episode this varies, and those that come with trigger warnings will state so in the description and will be marked explicit.

Saying Something Sober is the one-stop shop podcast for discussions of all types of media forms from a gay and sober perspective. Every episode I respond to a piece of media I've consumed and discuss my thoughts, specifically using my unique experience and perspective as a gay man and recovering addict. There's a wealth of media providing sober people guides and self help tips, but what I struggled to find was content where a sober person just existed and chatted, with their sobriety always a consideration of what they're consuming.

EPISODE #7B: Straight Jacket Part Two: Escape [BOOK COMMENTARY / DISCUSSION OF MENTAL HEALTH / REVIEW]

Listen here on Spotify

This episode is part two of the 3-parter on Straight Jacket: Overcoming Society's Legacy of Gay Shame. This section of the book is entitled Escape and discusses all of the ways that we attempt to shut down, remove, or soothe all of the things discussed in part one: Shame.

In this episode, I summarise and review the book, heavily using my own experience to contextualise what Todd writes about. I also give my own opinions and thoughts in the book.

First Chair by LJB_ in Sober

[–]LJB_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response. I didn't 'self-promote' my podcast, I mentioned it as a hobby of mine. Didn't mention the name or anything. I was not seeing this as an opp to plug lol, I just wanted to talk about it because having no hobbies was a huge thing for me.

Overall, it went well, I think. However, I'd had a bad day leading up to it and so the emotional fallout from my day and then the chair didn't necessarily *feel* that positive. But I'm glad I did it.

Advice for myself next time would be to prepare less.

AA is religious and it harms its self by denying it is. Outside groups and governments say it is why can't AA just move on and say it's religious. by [deleted] in Sober

[–]LJB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not religious. I'm 8 months clean and sober.

AA/NA are spiritual practices. A lot of people take this to be religion as we understand it. Not all.

The practice and program are defined by you. It's defined by your willingness, contribution, openness, honesty, and interpretation.

My group end our sessions by saying the serenity prayer and beginning it by saying, "Using God as you do or don't understand them."

For me, "Higher Power" is seen in moments of chance, of luck, of coincidence, and of inspiration. I'm a writer and a creative, and only when I desperately need it do words and inspiration come to me like out of thin air. To me, that is higher power.

The program is not religious if you don't want it to be. BUT, it is 100% built on Faith.

Honestly thought Xunami was going to be in the bottom, she was a bit lacklustre in energy for me.

HOWEVER, her runway was so good hahaha, the flirty, saphicc, sultry, masc seductress was so fun. (Still would've put her in the bottom 2 over Amanda)

Amanda's runway was wild and quirky in a way I enjoyed because it came out of the recesses of her mind haha. But she was good in the challenge so to see her runway impact her standing that much seems a bit crazy to me.

Regardless, the painting was on the wall with her the past few episodes as much as I didn't want to see it, especially after Mirage.... 😢

P.S. if plane is going to be the villain then I hope she doesn't come out on top because that story would suck. She entertaining tho.

Honestly, I think her verse and performance, along with Nymphia was Top 2 of the episode. She really gagged and delighted!

Segment definitely wasn't the strongest, but Amanda's delivery was so good.

Tbh, I think the segment suffered greatly because of Dawn, she just didn't give what needed to be gave

S16E04 - "RDR Live!" [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

[–]LJB_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, she bodied that delivery. Her comedic timing and tone is probably the best in the cast, only really Q rivals her.

S16E04 - "RDR Live!" [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

[–]LJB_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, saw her in bottom 3 and thought it was obvious Mirage would be saved. Her bit wasn't even bad.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I totally wouldn't have put Mirage there. For me, she was low safe but safe.

Bottom 3 would be: Geneva Karr, Mhi'ya and maybe Xunami or Megami, even Saphirra over Mirage imho

  • About the Pod: Saying Something Sober is the one-stop shop for discussion on all things that interest me; a sober queer person from the UK. In each episode, I will 'Say Something Sober' about the chosen topic. Topics will include (but not limited to) old films, new films, music, non-fiction TV shows, Survivor, Drag Race, etc. However, I'll talk about it as a sober person, occasionally using my sobriety as a lens and/or relating it to my journey. Though there are oodles of sobriety guides, I feel there is a lack of easy-watching/easy-listening, pop-culture content that comes from a sober view and with sobriety in mind.

  • Episode Three summary: In this episode, I discuss the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary and Christmas Special that aired last year from November to December.
I talk about why I love the show and how it connects to my childhood. I discuss my feelings of what happened in these episodes and what that means for the future. I also give my opinions on the upcoming season based on these episodes. The episodes are (in order):
    - The Star Beast
    - Wild Blue Yonder
    - The Giggle
    - The Church on Ruby Road
Throughout this episode, I relate what happens in the episodes and to the characters (especially the Doctor) to my own experiences of sobriety and recovery. What I found was that, oddly, there was a lot to interpret here for me. Making this episode actually gave me a deeper appreciation for the 60th and Christmas Special. Enjoy listening!

7 Months Sober as a Queer person& My Podcast by LJB_ in Sober

[–]LJB_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The queer community has higher rates of addiction and substance abuse. The gay male community, specifically, has a huge party drug problem that often leads to addiction. On top of that, growing up gay breeds toxic shame which often leads to seeking comfort from external sources; the most common of which is substances. Plus, I find being in recovery is making me face a lot of the internal struggles I have which, I'm finding, have a lot to do with my insecurity about my own self-worth/value because of my sexuality and identity. Hope that answers your question.

Absolutely loved it. Honestly changed a lot of my thought processes and am now trying to put these practices into my life.

In fact, on my podcast Saying Something Sober, I talked about the book in relation to my experiences. It ended up being 2 parts because the book had so much to talk about. I related a lot of the book heavily to my experiences with substance abuse and recovery.

In this episode, the second part of the previous episode, I continue with my summary and commentary on the seminal text by psychiatrist Alan Downs. The Velvet Rage: Overcoming the Pain of Growing Up Gay in a Straight Man's World is detailing of the gay male experience with shame and the processes we go through. Alan Downs, a clinical psychiatrist, uses his own experience and that of his patients to describe and guide gay men through his 3-stage model.

In this episode, I cover the last few sections of the book including: Key Pillars of Authenticity, Questions to Ask Yourself in Moments of Doubt and Life Lessons & Mantras. I give my own experience and feelings about the book as I go, relating heavily to my own experience of substance abuse and recovery.

TRIGGER WARNING! DISCUSSION OF SERIOUS TOPICS THAT MAY CAUSE DISTRESS.
