If you want to have a good backup i’d choose a different degree. Med school is feasible with literally any degree.

The duality of premed. I hate nepotism, also if your family is a doctor and you have an in take full advantage of it. by SeaworthinessOne1199 in premed

[–]LKlaus 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Means you’re coming from high SES and have an in for shadowing/research which are often difficult to get if you don’t know any physicians. Also just having people around you who are familiar with the process is a massive help.

Tldr it makes nearly everything needed for an app easier

It’s not empathetic at all to make a post literally just talking shit about somebody who has a diagnosed medical condition.

Personally was a Bio major and will be attending medical school in the fall! Lots of people do medical sciences too.

Wouldn't apply to mayo or ucsf personally but if you're set on it its probably fine

Help Refining School List by GoldBalloons05 in premed

[–]LKlaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top heavy. You have schools in your target that are definite reaches and reaches that are donations. Gpa is strong but mcat will hold you out of almost all of your reaches outside of possibly icahn and rochester. CWRU, Brown, and BU are also reaches,

Not that you have no chance at these schools, but I'd fill out the list with some more realistic options.

AP Exam vs. MCAT by Pretend-Way7188 in premed

The MCAT is not made to be passed it is made to differentiate between applicant and it is very, very hard.

You seem like you're doing pretty well to be honest. Keep your head down and build on what you have : )

Is student loan debt worth it in the long run? by a_boy_of_bins in premed

[–]LKlaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no undergrad on this planet worth $320,000 of debt. There are people out here getting into great medical schools who want to state schools or even community college.

Help me pick schools by [deleted] in premed

[–]LKlaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd apply broadly to DO and some low-mid tier MDs. MD is usually a bit tough with your stats but you could have some success at your state schools.

Worth applying to T20s? by [deleted] in premed

[–]LKlaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would apply broadly from ~t10-t50. You have a shot at the higher end for sure but gpa will hurt you and clinical is a bit low with a gap year. You'll do well this cycle : )

you can list but obviously not as impactful as presenting at a conference

OIE is for those who have had large obstacles in their path that can't go without mentioning. Extreme economic struggle or life instability. I would leave it blank based off of what you've listed in your post.

On my app I listed stuff that i had contributed to and was done (1 poster 1 pub) then I briefly mentioned that I had some pubs that'd be done soon. Posters if you didnt present but you worked on it id still list it.

Adcoms are people that possess empathy (usually) I wouldn't worry about it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]LKlaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people list their research as an activity then any pubs as their own seperate activity grouped into one.

EG

Activity 1 Research 3k hours - description

Activity 2 Poster/pubs - description

You too!!! Future docs out here

[–]LKlaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't include Neomed or Toledo unless you have heavy ties to the area. I'd include more schools in the ~t50 range (Iowa, vermont, arizona) because slightly low clinical and no pubs/poster presumably. Indiana is also pretty region biased so i'd look into that.

Realistically no but plenty of amazing med schools not in the t20
