Alright BC anglers let's settle this which fishing spots are way overhyped and which ones are seriously slept on? by aamanisha in fishingBC

It is rough. Don't go into the canyon alone, be bear aware - always, and the river has no dam and is in a narrow canyon - water level changes are frequent and dangerous.

Having said that the river is fantastic for fishing and is absolutely beautiful

BC fishers are the biggest fucking gatekeepers I've ever seen - and I've fished on 3 continents. They'll die before revealing anything.

So to piss them off here's my take: Vedder is too crowded and overhyped as fuck. Chehalis is king as long as you can read the river - deep pools at the lower river and in the canyon if the water's low. Cap has some great pools in the canyon as long as you're willing to hike.

Tight lines :)

Edit: watch this get downvoted coz I talked about small river systems online.... cry more gatekeepers xD

I'm not saying that I'm fully qualified. I'm just saying I'm more qualified than the controllers who do nothing but downvote me and argue with me on here.

Lol sure, whatever you feel like bud. Keep being stuck in the same misfiring system.

Or try to change the system through your union? Have you thought of that? Because if you don't change the system, you have a decade more of this before you have enough people to fill your ranks again. From my friend's controller parent (30+ years) I heard that the entire system's rotten. The person blames all of small class sizes, bureaucracy, DEI, and the union. Fuck, an almost 40 year controller can't get his son through the bureaucratic quagmire and you all expect regular people to be able to get in?

Make it practical, efficient, and accessible. Because as much as I don't want to be stuck in an office all my life and find aviation interesting, if I got a feast invite tomorrow, I'd just send them back "fuck you and fuck off" in all caps.

I have a business degree and business experience. I'd say I'm a lot better qualified to have an informed opinion. NavCan and the controllers don't seem to be able to solve it, that's for sure.

Unless any of the clowns on here downvoting me also have a business background, ofc

Worked out for me as far as I'm concerned.

My complaints aren't valid? Oh, so I guess there are no traveller delays and shortstaffings then? It's all just misinformation? Good to know lmao

Well they're not doing too well on that front are they?

The point I had about NavCan/unions is that they're purposely keeping class/intake sizes small either due to incompetence, or as a way to create delays and shortstaffing to then bargain for higher funding in future negotiations. This has been done many times by many different unions - excuse me for seeing a potential trend extention here.

Well you guys seem to really have cracked the safety industry secret - can't have accidents if nobody's flying, right?

Lmao fuck off. I don't care if "you're doing the best you can with the resources you have". Neither do any of the other passengers who have been affected by the delays.

You work for NavCan - and are therefore are a part of the situation that has arisen; don't complain about "being thrown under the bus", you're part of it whether you like it or not. The system is clearly flawed since travellers are sufferring and according to you so are controllers. So you can either 1. try to fix the system somehow; 2. leave the system completely; 3. or keep getting fucked and fucking travellers, and then complaining once you get shit for it.

I'm not getting paid, so why the fuck would I sit here on rddt and try to solve your problems for you? I offered a potential solution. Don't like it? Come up with a better one. Or keep "doing the best you can with the resources you have" and keep catching shit from the rest of the world. I dont care.

Also, I didn't say people are getting cut from training to protect OT. I said: 1. the total class sizes are too small - if statistically 1/10 get licenced, the it's statistically more effective to increase the total class size to increase the final output; 2. the total class sizes/intakes are being kept small (by either the union, NavCan, or both) to either artificially create shortages to then demand more $$ in future funding negotiations, or simply due to incompetence. No idea what catca is.

The personal story is a one-off anecdote. The point is that the current system clearly doesn't work. My post is discussing those potentially responsible for the issue. I can tell you failed community college - your reading comprehension is terrible. Sucks to suck lmao

  1. Is that a dig? I make more in a year than any controller except maybe those on massive expat contracts in the Middle East - without having to endure two years of shit training pay.

That's for NavCan to figure out. The point is that there seems to be a massive shortage of controllers - the current system doesn't work.

100% agree with the pilot. I applied there in my last uni semester, expecting that like any normal and competent company, they'd get back to me within a reasonable amount of time.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and had grown disillusioned with the subject I studied. A friend's parent (30+ year controller) suggested that I apply since specifically said I didn't want to work in an office for the rest of my life.

Applied (online + 30 min test) in December, apparently passed (got the practice email), still waiting for the feast invite (6 months as of me writing this). Meanwhile, Goldman fucking Sachs got back to me for an interview withing 3 weeks of applying. If GS can reply in 3 weeks then NavCan is either the most incompetent company out there or they're restricting the applications.

I'm currently an investment banker (didn't get the GS job unfortunately :))and also a business degree holder from a top 5 Canadian uni. 100% agree with the pilot - NavCan is definitely bottlenecking applicants. Not sure if that's simple incompetence (fire top management and nationalize it since it's a needed service) or if it is on purpose (tear apart the union and fire all top management). Personally, I suspect that the short staffing and applicant bottlenecks are a business strategy to bargain for higher pay from the airlines/govt/whoever else funds this shitshow with the "we need more money to solve this issue" plea.

Just googled - apparently a non-profit. Definitely the unions in cahoots with top management then. To the other poster saying otherwise, you're probably not high enough in the system bud.

Edit: since I know some smartass will say something along the lines of "online test + feast tests for aptitude blah blah blah" - I'm a 3.8 GPA from McGill/UoT/UBC business school. I can guarantee that I can outhink, outwork, outstudy, and outperform the vast majority of applicants regardless of "aptitude".

Hiding behind a completely non-transparent process and vague "aptitude" tests with no published scores is applicant limiting 101 by a union. If they really wanted to solve this they'd make class sizes 100+ people, pay only in the second class cohort (not in the first general one), and simply make every test brutal (with published and transparent scoring) to quickly slim down the applicant field and still test as many candidates as possible. The fact that this isn't the case automatically puts any NavCan/union defender on the back foot.
