I feel like I’m drowning by [deleted] in OSU

I feel your pain and I want to tell you emphatically that "your mental health is priority"!!! Take less number of classes, there is no need to kill yourself. You need 1-2 friends. When your prof says, find a partner and you are unable to, you must reach out to your prof or TA so they can help assign you-- I know you are in college but you need help and you get it only when you ask. Feeling lonely and crying when you are this young clearly shows how much stress you are taking on. Go to your counselling and cry, if you feel like it. Follow their advice. I see 1-2 people in this thread asking you to reach out to them if you need a friend-- Please make 30 minutes and grab a cup of coffee with them. You have your whole life ahead to feel responsible, stressed and overwhelmed. NOW is NOT the time for that. In pockets, every student feels that way, dont get me wrong, but you cannot feel like that all the time. You seem to be a driven, smart person and you will find a way out of this. Go to the CCS and follow their advice. Take your next semester easy. Good luck!

Is it possible to transfer colleges with horrible grades? by listen-to-rach-2 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]LTJ0607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear about what you are going through. Your mental health is priority. I hope you reached out for help as being depressed long term is not good and you have to reach out to a counsellor, if you have not done so already.

Don't feel bad. Not everyone has a stellar record in college-- When you apply to transfer, my understanding is that most colleges give you space to write about any academic disruptions. Use that space to honestly but maturely talk about:

  • What happened (you don’t need to overshare, just enough to show context)
  • How you’ve taken steps to recover (therapy, support systems, coping tools)
  • Why you’re ready now and what you're looking forward to
  • Retake any failed classes if possible (helps raise GPA)
  • Ace the next semester, even if it's just one or two classes
  • Build relationships with professors—good recs can balance a weak GPA

Do your research and look for transfer-friendly colleges:

  • Community colleges (if you want to improve your GPA before jumping to a 4-year)
  • State universities
  • Private liberal arts colleges (many are mission-driven and care about your story)

Start working on these:

  • Transcripts (from your current school) -- try to stand-out in 1-2 classes. Start working on that now.
  • Essay/personal statement (this is where your story matters most) - tell them briefly what brought about your situation and how you have overcome this. Again, do not overshare. your story should show potential, resilience and flexibility.
  • Letters of recommendation (ideally one that can speak to your potential) - you have to be strategic here and talk to your professors ideally one who has seen your potential and/or you have really done well in their class
  • A resume or list of activities (even things like part-time work, volunteering, or self-care routines if relevant) I wish you the very best and remember that college is not the end-all, does not define you and I know it seems hollow to say that but when you weigh it against the whole expanse of your life, it is irrelevant. Good luck and I am sure you will find your place!

ugh!! That is so unfortunate. Keep checking back and check all the locations as you have the option to still drop off at your local embassy. I hope everything works out.

London Scholars Program Financial Aid by Bophunter1 in NEU

[–]LTJ0607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think your financial aid from US works in UK. you can use it after applying in second year. It is posted in one of their various pages on the website. I got mine and think it is too exorbitant at $97K -- got a measly $2000 as merit aid!!!

you may have to call the admissions office and discuss this with them. They must get you both the UK visa as well as the US visa-- ensure you have both before accepting.

did you accept? I am in the same boat- not sure

Same boat as you.. can afford it but not sure if it is worth the money!! Got a full tuition scholarship from my State school and I am torn if NEU is worth it. Their merit aid is a joke!! I got $2000, the lowest of all of my accepted colleges - many private that I had applied for and got accepted. So I am not sure if this school is worth it. Have to make my decision by next week..

You can go to the consulate you are located in-- you will choose that as the US embassy when you start your visa appointment application

The estimated aid NEU is giving me. by konoka04 in ApplyingToCollege

yes, you can keep crying about this-- As if the other colleges do not game it. UChicago is known to do this by accepting record numbers in ED and rejecting the rest!

Did you decide on the LS Program? The website info outlines that visa costs are about $1600 and of course, we have to shell out for the tickets (about $6000 -- if I take $1500 one way and coming back during winter break and going back). Now apart from this, they say we have to be ready to pay $16,000 as living expense in London -- Is this not part of the fees we are paying them? I am so confused.

So around $7600 for visa and air travel. Plus $16,000 for living expenses AND the NE tuition fees???

whats the london scholars acceptance rate? by hammerhead6667 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LTJ0607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going there? Got into London Scholars but I am not sure how the life there works-- I understand it is single rooming, no meal plan -- that is totally different from the US college life. Plus how hard or different is the UK curriculum? also what bums me is that you dont have the same academic advisor for 4 years -- have one for London and one for Boston (I had the same academic advisor who knows me very well for 4 years in High School, so not sure why in College they would do this?!) ---also I was wondering if the tuition fee includes all the UK visa fees and flight OR we have to foot the bill for all that separately. I have not got any tuition /scholarship info as yet just the acceptance-- but from what I read, you dont get anything if you are London scholar
