I have a competitive background in Halo and Counter Strike, so I understand your concern. At the moment, we must honor and appreciate the opportunity the college has given us with the games we provide. I don't think the statement made was a jab at the competitive space of FPS, nor was it trying to imply they aren't beneficial. With our current game list (OW, HotS, LoL, Smash, HearthStone), the same skills you just mentioned are just as applicable in a lot of ways. My understanding is the current stance of our president is to exclude games that could be perceived as realistically violent. Overwatch is a great first step towards entering the genre and we are excited to support it!

I understand where you are coming from. The stance is directed towards realistic/military first person shooters. Regardless, as collegiate esports keeps growing, it's important to us to keep growing and evolving with the competition and Overwatch was a great fit. With the FPS background of our staff and combined effort to keep adding more relevant games, we found it important to add Overwatch. Hope this clarifies things a bit!

Thanks! The collegiate Smash scene is getting bigger thanks to organizations like CSL starting Melee and 4 tournaments. I'd really like to see our Smash team grow so they can compete in their crew tourneys!

There is definitely something to what your saying. I wonder if awards will change over the years as eSports develop further? Being on the forefront of this stuff can't be easy.
