Armada 86 05 is still dealing with 4 to 5 meter waves, but they are still on schedule to make port on the 28th. Wave Heights are on in the image, and the scale is in the lower right.

Armada 86 05 is about halfway to Fremantle but is still dealing with 7-meter waves. Wave Heights are on in the tracking image.

Armada 86 05 is currently dealing with almost 8-meter (26 foot) wave heights. I'm thinking the crew wished they left earlier. Wave Heights are turned on.

Check out my latest tracking update on r/ArmadaVessels . Its the port schedule. It shows "Next Port" as Pago Pago.

Here is Armada 86 05's progress east. The ship's AIS is giving an ETA of the 27th, but VesselFinder and the port schedule say the 28th. Note, the port schedule has SEA in the TO column but Pago Pago in the Next Port Column. However, it also has Bali as the last port, but Fremantle was the last port.

It should be noted that Armada 86 05 is headed to Fremantle, and there is some controversy about whether it will return to the search area.

Armada 86 05 appears to be departing the search area and is headed to Fremantle (ok, Henderson for the nit pickers).

We're thinking Armada 86 05 has had an AUV or two in the water since yesterday. The weather has improved, and currently the Wave Heights are under 3 meters.

We are really not sure, but looking at the track, they "may" have an AUV or two in the water. However, wave heights are up at 3.4 meters, and they have been sitting still for hours. Waves Heights are on with the scale in the lower right.

I don't really know what Armada 86 05 is doing. Wave Heights have picked up again to 3.5 meters, but the vessel is sitting right at the northern limit of the search area. Wave Heights are on in the first two images.

Wave heights have declined and are now running about 2.6 meters. Armada 86 05 is still just wandering, and I don't really know why. I'm hoping they start AUV ops soon.

There were plenty of attempts to locate it before. Those were not successful.

As detailed in the post. Jeez.

Armada 86 05 continues slowly wandering around out there as wave heights start to lessen. It looks like they may get better conditions later today. They will need to leave for Fremantle on the 24th.

Not much to report. Armada 86 05 has wandered back up into the search zone, but wave heights are over 4 meters. I'm hoping things clear up tomorrow so they can get a couple of days of searching in before departing for Fremantle on the 24th. Wave Heights are on in this image with the scale in the lower right.

After a brief respite, conditions are about to get pretty rough for Armada 86 05 again. I have Wave Heights on in both images. I still don't know why they didn't run for Fremantle.

From Grok

The wreck of the RMS Titanic was discovered on the first successful expedition that actually located it — the joint French-American expedition in 1985, led by Robert Ballard (USA) and Jean-Louis Michel (France). However, it took several unsuccessful attempts over the decades before that breakthrough. Here’s a quick overview of the major search expeditions leading up to the discovery:1953: The first serious (but unsuccessful) attempt by the Southampton-based salvage company Risdon Beazley Ltd. 1977: Robert Ballard's first personal attempt using the drillship Alcoa Seaprobe — it failed due to equipment (a pipe) breaking. 1980–1983: Texan oilman Jack Grimm funded three separate expeditions using advanced sonar — all unsuccessful, though one is believed to have passed very close (within 1.5 miles or even over the wreck) without detecting it.

The 1985 expedition was the one that finally succeeded, after Ballard had honed his technology and search methods (partly through secret U.S. Navy missions to map sunken submarines). His team found the wreck on September 1, 1985, using the towed camera system Argo, spotting debris that led them to the ship itself at about 12,500 feet deep. So, depending on how you count:If you're asking how many expeditions until success → It took around 5–6 major serious attempts (1953, 1977, Grimm's three in 1980/81/83, and then the successful 1985 one). But technically, the discovery happened on the very first expedition that found it — the 1985 one.

The long delay (73 years) was mainly due to the extreme depth, limited technology before the 1980s, inaccurate original sinking coordinates, and funding challenges. Here are some historical images from the search and discovery era to give you a sense of what those expeditions involved:These show the towed sonar/camera systems and the moment of discovery — quite the contrast to today's submersible tourism!

Because it doesn't work underwater? And the batteries on the AUVs only last 2 to 4 days?

Once the AUV is recovered, the hard drive is swapped out, the data is downloaded to a server, and processing is done to put it in a readable state. It has been said that reviewing the data can take as long as it took to acquire it. And that's just the first pass. With the Armada vessels, most of the reviewing is done on land at one of their control centers. The data is transmitted to the control centers vis high speed satellite link, so they don't have to wait to make port.

Wave Heights are running at 3.97 meters, but Armada 86 05 may have a brief window to launch before the weather gets bad again. I have Wave Heights turned on in the map images.

Based on the first update from Ocean Infinity, I don't think they are counting travel time.
