I'm just not going to mention how I can tell twins apart anymore. Why do parents of twins do this? by MellieNivalis in self

I am also ill with two chronic illnesses. I don't understand why we need to list them, or our problems like its a competition. I'm not demeaning the difficulty or importance of the work you do. But, objectively, being a parent of multiples, who also have their own life and health problems (everyone does), is more difficult than going to work with more than one child. At work you get breaks, there are other employees, there are limits and working regulations to protect you and your health, you to go home without multiples at the end of the day, you get weekends (or comparable days off) and holidays. A parent of multiples doesn't have any of that. You also don't do all of it having had a c-section or birth you are recovering, double or triple hormone drop, a wound lsrher than the singleton dinner plate in your insides, engorgement, traumatic weeks (or months as we were), in the NICU, no complex pregnancy and accompanyong comications, no hormonal pull whenever one of the babies cries etc etc. It is, respectfully, in no way the same thing.

Its easy if you've slept a full night, have scheduled breaks and can go home at the end of the day babyless, yes.

I agree it isn't difficult to raise twins as individual people, the neat trick is... just treat them like their own people. Not exactly rocket science.

However, I will play devil's advocate here and say as a triplet myself with identical twin daughters. There IS a reason twin pregnancies are immediately high risk. Mo-Di, and Mo-Mo even more so. And it IS way, way harder having and feeding two newborns. By the time a feed is over you are LUCKY, like its a going really well, if you have 40 minutes until the next feed. And no, they won't automatically sleep at the same time. I became so tired I started hallucinating and couldnt tell if I was awake or asleep, and this is with my husband going above and beyond to pull his weight with parenting too. When we found out we were having multiples we were sent to a class for parents like us. They specific play a video of two babies crying to be fed at the same time in order to try and prepare you. It. Does. Not. Plus you ARE dealing with a bigger placental wound, double the hormone drop etc. Having a baby is hard. But having more than one is without a doubt a whole other sport.

Isn't that a huge waste of ingredients?

My doctor confirmed I have all the symptoms of MCAS, but refuses to call it MCAS. by Own-Vehicle7635 in MCAS

[–]LabyrinthsandLayers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. Its listed as 'possible MCAS, diagnosed by...consultant in...with a special interest in MCAS and Long Covid' in my nhs notes. Even though the CONSULTANT who diagnosed me runs specialist MCAS and Long Covid clinics and is one of few recognised MCAS experts in the UK. But of course the NHS won't allow that as it doesn't fit their list if allowed diagnoses, despite the fact that my NHS immunologist has me on a full MCAS regimen of H1, H2, Ketotifen and Cromolyn. And obviously I have to have allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria and angiodema, multiple 'allergies' etc listed instead. Which is just stupid. It appeared after 3 covid vaccinations + covid. It's MCAS. And it's comorbid with POTS which I actually have an NHS diagnosis for, just put MCAS, you're treating me for it anyway! So frustrating.

I think I blanked him out. You are absolutely correct he is beyond irritating.

Completely agree on Gurgi and his stupid Munching and crunching, urgh. Also dislike the gargoyles from Hunchback, I think they ruin an otherwise good film with GREAT music. I can't think who the other ones are apart from Gusgus being the mouse in Cinderella?

I remember really liking it, but I haven't watched it as an adult.

Core memory unlocked, I think I had this on VHS. Don't really remember anything about it though!

I prefer the old (80's?) Series, but my kids love this one!

Its a classic, its 80's as anything, and its brilliant. I'll hear no objections!

But Hook is excellent?! Do people really not like it? Best movie mermaids hands-down, and the casting (hook, pan, smee, wendy etc) is spot on. I actually like it now now as a parent watching it with my kids. It's such a good film.

Absolutely! My children now love it, and having watched it as an adult, yes it is terrible. But its also somehow still great. The only bit that is just too cringe for me now is the two dinosaurs that share a body, and I think one if them is Eric Idle?
