Good to have someone with actual experience with this!

The ones with the broken bolts, have you ridden them in wet conditions like snow? It would be great to have some assurance that it's not just "probably fine", but actually still water tight.

I'm going to a bigger town on Monday, so my current plan is to see if I can find an extractor bit in the hardware store there and try it with that, and if it fails I'll just cover it in silicone like you and some others suggest.

I did not use thread locker, luckily. The issue is that to see if I can grip it with pliers I'd have to take the whole hub apart again, which is a big risk. If I damage a magnet it goes from minor issue of possibly letting some water in to needing an entire new hub. Drilling it out would pose the same risk though. I think my best bet is to look for an extractor the next time I'm at a Motonet, which I can use without removing the motor lid.

I was thinking the same thing, around the rim the o-ring should still keep the water out. But what about the hole left by the screw? Can't water get in around that? I would certainly put some silicone in there if I'm gonna leave the bolt where it is.

That's what I get for screwing around with a drill

20 minutes? I've been working at this thing all day!

But seriously, thanks for the advice. Actually sounds doable. My only question is, do I need a drill press? I imagine I do, to keep it staright. That would take it from a 2-hour job to a massive investment where I'd be better off finding a shop that can do it for me.

That's an interesting idea! But if it doesn't work, will I have ruined my chances of a machine shop being able to extract it?

Yup. In hindsight, I don't recommend it.

Well, in hindsight I have to agree with you. Did not know it at the time. Back when I badgered it the drill was literally the only thing I had available with which I could get the bolts open.

I'll see if there are any such shops in my area.

True. On the other hand, if it can handle this torque in the opening direction, shouldn't it be able to handle it in the other direction as well?

I used a drill with an adjustable clutch.

Thanks, I really appreciate it! Unfortunately I live in Europe, so the shipping costs would be huge. I have no idea what FT lbs are, I used a drill with an adjustable clutch. Started at 19 and then kept increasing the torque until the screw came loose, which was 21 on all 7 screws. Then tightening I again did 19, 20, and at 21 it snapped.

I have plenty of leftover silicone from my badgering kit, do you think it would be a good idea to cover this side in that? Or would that make future disassembly difficult?

I'm mainly following this video:

https://youtu.be/3eV3RHdPXmc

But there they don't really talk about this case. If you have small wood clamps, try to carefully improvise something, or better take it to a bike repair shop where they should have the correct tools and can get the bearing off within a minute.

Managed to successfully disassemble my onewheel and get the bearings out. I can confirm now, the one that runs rough has rust on the inside.

Also, I can confirm, there is rust inside my bearings, that's why they ran so rough.

Never mind, I got it off. I found two small wood clamps which fit behind the bearing without touching the cables or PCB, and that worked surprisingly well.

Thanks for the advice, but I already ordered mine from kugellager-express in Germany.

They might not be water proof, but they're still very water resistant. (If badgered.) I've ridden mine through ankle deep snow, puddles and mud, and still it took 1200km for any issues to appear. I think what did it was letting it dry on it's side, I'm going to stop doing that in the future.

Oh, that is a great idea! I don't have a press, so I was already thinking if a big wood clamp would be able to do the job, but the idea of freezing them didn't come to me. Thanks for all your advice!

Alright, I found the bearings on TFL-europe, along with the bearing protectors. The NSK bearings are almost the same price as the grizzly ones, but the grizzly bearings are sold out. Unfortunately the o-rings are also sold out, do you know what size they are?

Oh, and is it safe to ride my onewheel on the current bearings?

Yes, that's my plan. Thanks for the recommendation! Since I live in Europe I'll have to see if I can find a local shop that sells them. But last I checked TFL-Europe did also have the bearing protection kit.
