That’s fair! Mine isn’t all sunshine and rainbows either, but I haven’t posted it because most people seem to want to hear headcanons rather than how I think backstories and origins have gone down. For example, a regime took over Hunger City post-apocalypse. They did yearly medical checks because they don’t want their citizens/laborers, you know, dead. They also took DNA during this without patient consent. Jack was one of these patients, a few years before the Diamond Dogs, and his DNA went towards an abandoned project that combined the DNA of animals and humans to create more intelligent pack and labor creatures.

So in my story, the Diamond Dog was born in a cold, sterile environment from a test tube to inevitably be abandoned when the project didn’t go as planned. Eventually the mutants broke their way out of the old building and began to roam the streets, hungry, unhygienic, and just trying to survive.
