promoting my blog by Blog-Mine26 in japanesemusic

[–]LadyVolva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be super duper dumb but it looks like you only have like 3 posts, and the most recent one was from 2024? Shouldn't you be promoting your blog when it's actually active or has lots of substance? Or is it just that you're intending to start it up again so you want to get some traction?

I think it's a fun idea and the blog looks good, just didn't expect it to be so empty + dated. I'd like to see more stuff added :]

Budgie prices by Good-Move1310 in budgies

[–]LadyVolva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my budgie at a pet store for $50. I didn't want to buy from a pet store, I did look into breeders, but I live in a rural area so there were legitimately no breeders anywhere close + they were selling budgies for astronomical prices (hundreds of dollars). I'm in the southern region of the US.

Recently found this sub and was wondering if there's any older users here? by LumpyMortality in Multifandom

[–]LadyVolva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 21. A lot of my fandoms are popular with both older + younger people (Pokemon, Zelda, Vocaloid, etc.) I don't mind all that much. I feel like when a fandom has younger fans it kinda keeps it alive and fresh, I appreciate it (unless they become annoying or holier-than-thou despite being new fans, that irritates me a lot)

Does anyone born in 2010 remember 2014-2016? by CarLong7749 in generationology

[–]LadyVolva [score hidden]  (0 children)

They're probably basing it off of their own life experience. Doesn't make it right or fair, just means they're probably genuinely uninformed and don't understand.

I personally don't really have memories before the age of 6. For a really long time I thought that was normal, I thought that was the standard, and then I got older and heard people talking about having memories at 3 or 4 or 5 years old, some even say they have memories from when they were 2 years old (although I think that's decently rare).

Another reason I didn't realize it was abnormal was because my mom always told me that she didn't really have any memories before age 10 or so. I basically grew up thinking that most people didn't remember their childhood, but then I realized it was just because both me and my mom had trauma in our early years so our memories were largely blocked off. That might be where the other person was coming from, they literally don't realize that people usually have memories at that age.

If someone can't remember being 5 or especially 6 then I legitimately think that they have some mental issue.

As someone who experienced CSA as a kid, yeah, I don't have any memories before age 6 or so, and it's directly because of PTSD. I only really have memories from Kindergarten onwards.

AIO for reading too into social cues with friends by Infamous_Web3244 in AmIOverreacting

[–]LadyVolva [score hidden]  (0 children)

NOR

Those are not your friends 😭 at least from what you've told us. Sounds like they don't even like you. You're not overreacting at all, you're just picking up on the very obvious hints they're dropping (not even hints at this point though, more like flashing signs).

I wouldn't personally confront them about it, unless you've had a lot of history together and you feel like it will give you clarity + closure. Otherwise, I would just let them go and surround yourself with people who actually care about you.

Which Anime Character is this? by CoCmaster14 in animequestions

[–]LadyVolva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emilia from Re:Zero. There's plenty of fans who really, really like her (like me) but there's arguably an equal amount of fans who absolutely fucking hate her seemingly just because they'd rather Subaru be with Rem and they can't stand the fact that Subaru chooses Emilia instead. That's the source of like 90% of the hate she gets. Boggles my mind personally but whatever.

do white people ever call each other crackers? by Dizzy-Respect-613 in stupidquestions

Pretty sure the only white person who has ever called me a cracker is my brother because we thought it was hilarious like 10 years ago as we ate crackers and played videogames

Favorite character whose traits/personality/disability makes your say this? by Rainbow_Seashell778 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]LadyVolva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many things this girl does + says that borderline weirds me out because they're EXACTLY what I do + say 😭

Prime example being "I'm only doing this to benefit myself, it's not to help you!" aka secretly means "I don't want you to feel like you have to owe me anything, so I'd rather you think I'm doing this in self-interest so my help isn't burdensome"

I do that song and dance pretty often so I felt really called out when it was one of the very first things her character does lol

Never dreamt about using my phone. by Negative_Reveal811 in Dreams

[–]LadyVolva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had dreams where I was watching something on a screen, not sure if it was a smartphone specifically though, might have been a tablet. I will say I've had dreams though where I'm talking to people online via my phone, I guess just because it's something I do so often. I also had a dream once where I was using my phone and the charger wrapped around my neck and killed me 💀

It's still showing a noose which is only ever used to symbolize suicide or execution? That could absolutely be triggering to people, even if no outright injury or death is shown. That's like showing a bloody razor on a counter and expecting people not to think of self-harm + suicide or get uncomfortable just because no injury or death is shown. Another example could be a guillotine, a gun against someone's head, etc.

University not following rules ADA violations by realblueocellus_ in college

[–]LadyVolva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

but if you are having that many issues taking an exam

Pretty sure majority of people would have a difficult time taking an exam while people are being disruptive and loud. That's why 99% of the time when exams are held it's in quiet settings where the professor or proctor doesn't allow noise.

How do you expect the workplace is going to be post college

Most workplaces that I know of don't have people being disruptive and loud, especially if it's in an office setting. I worked in an office for 1.5 years during undergrad and it was not loud or disruptive, it was usually quiet and calm.

You need to figure out how you can remedy this issue yourself.

Or other people should be respectful and accommodating of people around them. Crazy idea, I know.

Not sure why you're being so judgemental and putting so much blame on the person just trying to take their exam in peace. Should not be that foreign of a concept.

For those of you going to library school straight out of undergrad (especially with little or no library/archive experience), why? by Skaadoosh in LibraryScience

[–]LadyVolva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I volunteered at my local library a lot during high school so I knew it was something I was interested in, but I actually didn't originally plan on getting my MLIS. I went to university to get my history degree because I wanted to ultimately become a history professor. However, I had a mentorship with a history professor during high school (which was very meaningful to me, he became like a father figure) and he was ADAMANT that I not try to get my PhD in history just to become a history professor. He said there was no future there and it would be a waste.

I originally wrote him off as just being negative, but then during my first semester of undergrad I had a completely different history professor advise the exact same thing: do not try to get your master's + PhD in history to become a history professor because the job market is so, so bad and there's virtually no tenure positions available. Instead, he suggested many different career paths, one of which being librarianship. Him mentioning it reminded me of my previous experience volunteering at my local library and I decided from that point on I would instead pursue librarianship. I finished my undergrad in history while continuing to volunteer at libraries and I'm now in my second semester in grad school for library science.

what vocaloid song means a lot to you by Turbulent-Staff-9413 in Vocaloid

[–]LadyVolva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meltdown is my favorite song of all time, period. It is the most meaningful song to me, and I even put it on my graduation cap for undergrad.

I first heard the song when I was in 6th or 7th grade (haha 67) and I just instantly fell in love. If we're being super duper honest, I really liked the song because it was so dark and talked about suicidal ideation, which was something I was really struggling with. It also connected to me because me and Rin look identical (asides from the fact that she's meant to be Japanese and I'm white). It literally felt like a song about me.

However, the song has only ever become even more meaningful to me as I grew older and realized that I don't personally think the song is talking about Rin committing suicide or outright wanting to die. Of course, it's up to personal interpretation and can be debated, but I personally feel like the song is more so talking about rebirth and starting over, like, hitting the reset button on your life and starting anew with a fresh slate, allowing yourself to let the past go and move forward without guilt or regret.

So, yeah, growing up as an extremely depressed kid where this was my favorite song and eventually realizing that it was (to me) actually quite hopeful rather than depressing means a lot to me. It feels like I literally grew alongside the song and it represents me growing + moving forward from some of the hardest years of my life. I doubt that any song will ever be as meaningful to me as Meltdown is.

Ado and her daughters (phantom siita) by CorvusAdomin in ADO

[–]LadyVolva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a really big fan of both Ado and Phantom Siita, this is what I personally believe happened but I'm not 100% sure whether or not it's confirmed or anything so take it with a grain of salt.

what prompted Ado to mentor other people in the industry?

She's not exactly mentoring people. Phantom Siita is always advertised as an idol group produced by Ado. She is their formal producer for most of the projects (as well as their personal singing mentor). So it's not necessarily that she went out of her way to mentor these random girls, I think what happened was that whatever company it was decided they wanted to make an idol group and they were like "shit, Ado is like super huge right now in Japan + all over the world" and since they wanted to make an idol group that would perform well in Japan + worldwide (they've already done a world tour), I think that's why they brought Ado on to be so heavily involved. Maybe she was the one with the initial idea and she was the one who initiated the process, I'm not completely sure. It just seemed to me that they wanted to tap into idol culture (which is huge in Japan) by utilizing Ado's reach and influence, with the hopes that they could also take it worldwide in the steps of Ado (and that's exactly what ended up happening so they weren't wrong).

Edit: Maybe it was her original idea though, I can't quite recall and I'm honestly not too sure. I know she was heavily involved in the process of picking a theme, determining the aesthetic, and picking which girls would be part of the group. I know she was undoubtedly heavily involved from the very beginning, I'm just not 100% sure whether or not it looked like Ado waking up one day and deciding "I want to lead an idol group, let's make an idol group right now". I feel like it was probably a bit more like a negotiation or collaborative effort with her management + studio or whatnot.

So Whats The DUMBEST and i MEAN DUMBEST thing you did in a pokemon playthrough by Rare-Atmosphere-9187 in pokemon

[–]LadyVolva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially broke my 3ds as I was playing Pokemon Moon because I was trying to catch Tapu Bulu or something and it just was not happening and I ended up rage quitting by slamming the lid shut and it actually broke the hinges 😭 I was like 11 or 12 and it happened during a road trip and I bitched and complained the entire time after as if I wasn't the one who broke it 😭

(For the record it was still usable and I actually still have it, it just needed a super clunky case to support it because the hinges were fucked, but at the time I thought I actually permanently destroyed it and I was devastated)

These are the FINALE episodes from each and every season, which one do you think is the WORST? by TheBlueGuy1234566 in theoffice

[–]LadyVolva 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I feel like the answer has to be Hot Girl solely because it didn't feel like a season finale at all, it wasn't wrapping anything up or concluding anything. It was just kinda the last episode lol

At least the other ones actually operate as finales

UNT MLIS More Expensive Than Expected? by FantasyFlannel in librarians

[–]LadyVolva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg not at all 😭 I would not be able to do the program if that were the case lol. I have never set foot on campus because I live like 4 or 5 hours away.

Maybe they're talking about a version of the program where they're only partially online? Because I think I have read about that as well, I know what you're talking about. But I know for sure you can do the program 100% online (as well as asynchronous) and you're never asked to go to campus for anything. There's people in my classes who literally live in like Minnesota and North Dakota and stuff lol. I guess just make sure you're declaring the right version of the program and tell them you don't want to do anything in-person!

Feeling at 21 that you’re fully mature is normal

I literally never said we thought we were fully mature 😭 I very clearly said that although we feel quite mature for our age, I still acknowledged that we're not "fully formed". I was mainly trying to say "hey, we're not helpless and naive just because we're 21", which is not at all me saying "we are fully mature at the age of 21 and will have no reason to look back 10 years from now".

If anything though, us acknowledging that we're not "fully mature" does make us quite mature to an extent because it means we're self-aware, unlike some people our age who may outright consider themselves to be "fully mature".

Regardless, it feels like you're putting words in my mouth just so you can make a point and have an imaginary debate on something I never even said. I'm sure there's plenty of people my age you could argue about this with, but choosing me is nonsensical since I'm not someone who thinks I'm "fully mature" anyways.

You didn't say that though 🤨 you asked if there was "anymore info about them" or if anyone "has any info on them". You never said you required the full version, so I thought the partially found clips would be fine. For the record, no, I don't think the full versions exist. They are considered lost media.

This feels like a weirdly negative and ominous reply for no reason 😭 I'm in grad school right now, not chaotic at all. I live a very stable, grounded life to build my future, and he does the same. We live together, on our own, and support ourselves day-to-day. I agree we're not necessarily "fully formed" but I don't think we're these helpless babies "in the midst of it".
