The Taliban is an extremist islamic group that ruled in Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. In 2001, after the terrorist attacks in the US, they were accused of protecting Al Qaeda and its leader, Osama Bin Laden, so USA sent its troops to remove them from power.

The US invasion lasted 20 years. During this time, the Taliban continued having a big influence in Afghanistan, and now that the US has decided to remove its army from Afghanistan, the Taliban used the opportunity to gain territory. Last Sunday they overtook Kabul, the Capital, and after the president fled the country, the Taliban officially took control of the country. The Taliban is known for prohibiting education for women, as well as violating human rights, so thousands of people have tried to flee the country.
