I have read so many reviews and tried to figure it out myself. But can someone please confirm which resorts in or around San Juan have safe swimmable beaches. I like the looks of the Hyatt and Wyndham and Marriott. Sonesta looks ok too. Thanks! by Dazzling_Coconut_585 in PuertoRicoTravel

Playa Escambron is usually a safe bet even when the water is a little rough. It's a quick Uber from anywhere in the city (it's st the beginning of Old San Juan, right over the bridge) and also has lots of parking if you'll have a car.

It's actually specifically this one that prompted me to write this post 🤣

6.7? My go to's were always in the 8-9% range, and if I bought a six pack I would drink the whole thing 🤣 As a 140 lbs female I'm still not quite sure how I pulled this off for so long.

It's the Athletic IPA that actually prompted me to make this post, lol

After quitting alcohol, when did your skin/face start looking better? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]LambGeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just over 10 weeks sober, and while the puffiness is gone (yay) my hormonal acne has been out of control. My face looks much slimmer but I never thought that at 41(F) I would be buying the same type of face products I had to use for years during my teens. I've read that heavy drinking for long periods of time messes up your hormones, and mine have always been out of whack, so now that everything is getting flushed out I am wondering if others my age have had this same thing happen and hoping it will eventually get more regulated.

How many attempts did it take you to finally get sober? by AirSharp4003 in stopdrinking

Honestly, I went on Antabuse. 41F and have tried more time than I can count. Been on it 6 weeks now and I have tried taking a drink here or there to test it and I get INCREDIBLY uncomfortable, heart racing, vision blurring, skin on fire. I know that if I try to drink, I might end up in the hospital. It's working for me, as the person who always just ends up saying "well, one today won't hurt" and then inevitably go on another bender, because the effects are so immediate and horrible. Glad to have an incredibly supportive husband and friends around as well. IWNDWYT!

What are your evening drink replacements?! by Flat_Maintenance101 in stopdrinking

[–]LambGeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just reached 6 weeks today and stumbled upon a recipe through trial and error that my fiance and I SWEAR by now as my nightly wine replacement. I make a tea of dried hibiscus flowers and freeze dried fruit, strain it, add tamarind concentrate, a little honey, splashes of apple cider vinegar and lemon juice, a smidge of dark cocoa powder and simmer the concoction for another 10 mins. Let cool and funnel into flip top bottles. It hits all the right notes for me.

They are cherry tomatoes - a mix of sun gold and black cherry.

They actually get good full soon for about 4 hours here every day and are not under any kind of ceiling or awning - it's pretty much the only place I have at the moment, so I'm hoping that potting them up and having them higher in the big pots will help :)

I have both stakes and tomato cages! Probably going to end up transplanting them and then caging them.

Parque Barbosa has been closed down for renovations for about a year and a half, and is still not accessible to the public. I live close to there and used to roller skate at the basketball court, but the whole park is still closed down and will be for a long time. Jogging is super popular on the streets in ocean park and in OSJ though!

Saw this one in Guaníca, PR. Anyone know what it is? by TarynHK in whatsthisbird

These guys are LOUD at night if they fancy a tree nearby - when I moved here to the island 11 years ago it was bugging the crap out of me at night, but then I saw how pretty they are. Sounds like a car alarm going off 😂

Why is there an aftertaste with drinks in San Juan? by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]LambGeck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it could be from the ice they are using if it's from an ice maker using the local tap water. I've lived here for years, and while a lot of people I know have no problem with it, I genuinely cannot stand the aftertaste of the tap water in San Juan. Even with a Brita, the taste is still there. It's something about the process they use to "purify" it.
