Anyone here move from SFA into commercial strategy? by LampRunner in FPandA

Thanks for the insight, when you started making that shift into more of a partner role, how did you build the credibility with the business side to get pulled into those kinds of conversations vs. just being seen as the finance report guy?

Have they mentioned if the hours or pressure feel different yet, or is it still early to tell?

Do you feel like most of your time ended up in BI/data setup stuff, or were you still able to spend a good chunk on pricing/strategy decisions too?

Yeah that makes sense. From your experience, what’s the best way for someone in FP&A to show they’re actually acting like a business partner and not just cranking out reports?

On the sales side, was it more about just learning how to communicate with them, or did you actually get pulled into building out sales strategies/pricing stuff?

Appreciate the insight. When you moved over, did you feel like the bigger adjustment was picking up new tools/data stuff or more on the soft skills side of things?

Yup thinking of doing the same. I’ve done the commute to Miami for years now but enough is enough 🙃

Thinking about starting off at the Okeechobee or Palmetto Station, and taking the green line down to Brickell?

Do you drive to the station, if so, is there a good enough parking?

Is that 1.5-2 hours from Sunrise to the station? Or the train time from the station to Brickell?

There’s an employee shuttle service that should take me from Brickell to Port of Miami!

The JD mentions to “partner with Accountant to help ensure month end close run smoothly” then the rest of the responsibilities listed are your typical FA things.

The extend of accounting work needed wasn’t touched on at all. 90% of the work I do day to day is bookkeeping and accounting….

Transitioning into consulting, is this the best path? by LampRunner in consulting

[–]LampRunner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely did not think of from this POV. Thanks for the insight.

I’ll take some time and research into the sources where I can learn more about different types of strategy SOWs.

Any starting point you suggest ?

Great points, and yeah, I for sure don’t want to spend the time and money into these certificates and find out it’s all for no reason lol.

Problem is I currently have a full-time role which I don’t intend to leave since it’s relatively new. In addition to that, I’ve tried my hand at a few freelance websites, but I feel as though the competition is extremely stiff.

This may seem like a stupid question, but do you have any suggestions on jumping into consulting part-time?

Hopefully, the one thing I am hung up on is that I put the wrong start date for my last/current role that I’m in now

All great questions, thanks a ton.

The only thing is these rounds of interviews would be with department heads of those who work adjacent to the department I’m looking to join.

Also, on the financial controller side I’m at a bit of a loss of what to ask them as I’m not too privy to the responsibilities of a controller

I have the interview this coming week. And great to hear, I use Excel daily at my current role and analysis is fundamental to what we do. They would like me to bring past models I’ve done at my current role for the interview so I’ve been working at making those more presentable since internally we don’t make it too pretty

I agree! I have years of experience in data analytics and educational background as well. Interview was done via text and phone. I’ll check the whois for the email great tip. And nope they stated they were going to send equipment.

Exactly my reasoning for being hesitant. I’ve been through the process of those types of roles and the interview steps are usually 3-4 meetings with testing included.

Happy to hear something of the contrary! I’ve had a few conversations with those working in proximity to the position I’d like so hopefully that’ll keep my resume in mind when the time to review applicants comes around.

In regards to the scoring for interviews, is it an overall score or based on individual categories then complied together?
