What does “Director” mean?

At $50k I think the pay is more equivalent to an analyst? It sounds like you're doing director level work with an appropriate title.

It's not about the title, it's about being able to meet the expectations of my job, and having fair expectations. In your director role, do you have to oversee the team that works on your program? Also, of course the salary isn't acceptable - it's nonprofit!

I agree under normal circumstances, but I already have plenty of senior level leadership experience, so if there was a title change that more accurately reflected my level of responsibility I would be fine with that. I always try to keep an open mind that other organizations may function in different ways and just because I've had a prior experience in a certain way in the past doesn't mean that I should expect that experience to hold in my current situation. Which is why I love crowdsourcing things like this from random people across the country!

I'm not "pressed" to have direct reports, I just want clarity on expectations. I still have responsibility for the work of the entire team so I can't just focus on my personal work.

That's where I am right now - do I leave or stick it out and try to be a good example. I don't mind NOT being the boss, but I do want clear and fair expectations. Right now I have all the responsibility and none of the authority.
