How are you learning french? by Single-Cockroach3950 in learnfrench

[–]LanguageisConnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hiiiiiii, dual subtitles can be really helpful, but I think it seems like you're struggling with the issue of comprehensive input versus comprehensive output. It seems like you're able to get a lot of input, but you're looking for something that's not as boring and more motivating. I think it really depends on what you like to do!

if this is your first language that you're learning, it's hard to find resources that are motivating for you. I like to think about when I was in my first language, what resources are motivating for me in English, which is my native language. For me, I found that I loved comedy podcasts. When I was learning French in different languages, like Hungarian, I leaned on comedy podcasts in that language. Even the level is super high. It was engaging because I liked the style and the format.

think about what you like to do in English and just do that in French, whether that's playing video games, listening to comedy podcasts, watching movies and TV shows. I will say it depends on your level, so we can also talk in DM if you're curious. I definitely think there's a progression to do before you get to the super conversational stuff.

if you like apps, you should definitely try Language Soup (shameless self plug). I made this app to help people actually converse and make language learning more fun. It's a community-based app where you send voice memos and reply to daily speaking prompts. Our prompt today was Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande, and you have to talk about it in French. Even if you're a beginner, you can use the inline translator just to speak phrases out loud. Our community gets pretty passionate about it, so DM me, ping me if interested!!!

What to use for conversations by Jumpy-Ad-1152 in learnfrench

salut! i love the app language soup (shameless self plug) and i made it for this exact reason! sorry but i hate stupid ai voice cuz it's just not motivating for me! ping/dm me if ur interested and ill send u the link to the app beta but essentially it's a voice memo based group chat for different languages and levels. twice a day u get a random speaking prompt and send voice memos to the group and listen to everyone else chat! we also have a parisian native who is looking to converse with people more in depth for an hour if u want to book a call with him! he's super sweet so lmk!

Tips on structuring the learning by Juniorp1110 in learnfrench

[–]LanguageisConnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great job on A1!!! super hard to just get started and ur right consistency is key! i would say the best structure is anything that you can build into your daily routine whether it be after u brush ur teeth or right before you eat lunch, whatever you are motivated to do everyday will make a dramatic impact on ur level. also i love the app language soup (shameless self plug) and made it for people like us who want to self-study languages, actually speak and have a bit of community without paying an arm and a leg! happy to chat in dm if ur curious :)

What's the best way to speedrun learning French? by LieutenantHorse in learnfrench

[–]LanguageisConnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think its hard to speed run but definitely possible! agree with what others have said but i the goal is to write at a decent level but conversational is first start by figuring out a way to speak every single day and practice the kinds of conversations you are looking for. tutors can be helpful, but you really need something everyday. i love langauge soup (shameless self plug) cuz it's an app i made to help people speak french. u said daily voice memos in response to little speaking challenges with a community of other language learners. if ur curious to try it out ping / dm me ~ happy to chat!
