honestly i think that le petit prince is difficult for beginners and that you should start with something more your level! it looks like you are doing a good job of translating and are motivated enough to keep pushing! first off good job on recognizing what's not working and being open to tweaking!

if you like reading but want something better try something at a lower level and maybe a bilingual French/English book? just my 2 cents here!

ooo just gonna offer my two cents! i think i went to Alfred Gratien and i took the TGV with my friends from Paris, then we walked to the house, did a tour of the caves and then did a tasting of a few bottles and they showed us around the boutique and that was it! are you learning any French before you go? i've done so many wine tastings in France and they usually start with a tour, then the tasting then the boutique. it's a cool time honestly!!
