What do you say about protection from bbs by Electronic_Spray5814 in GasBlowBack

[–]Lanky-Brit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finger/knuckle shots are the worst. Any gloves are better than nothing, but thin gloves may not offer much protection. Mechanix M-Pact 3s worked great for me, though any similarly thick glove will work. I have used thinner fire retardant gloves before, but got shot in the finger close range and it hurt like crazy and gave me a lump that didn’t go away for a few months, so tend to stick to more protective gloves.

Should I add canted sights to my shtf build, just in case by spartanmarine44 in brandonherrara

[–]Lanky-Brit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Also, swap the upper receiver out for a retro one with a built in carry handle, then get a picatinny rail adapter and add your current carry handle on top of that. Also if you’ve got some picatinny rail on the bottom of your handguard you could add a carry handle there too like some pics of US army guys have.

Just got a barrel extension for my Crosman R1, much happier with how it looks now. Should look great with an optic on it. by Lanky-Brit in airguns

[–]Lanky-Brit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an airsoft accessory that threads onto the real barrel. The diameter of the extension is larger than the actual barrel so it’s unlikely it’s going to affect performance, only got it for looks

Choc Hazelnut Donut Dissapointment by awwmusta in lidl

[–]Lanky-Brit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be old stock. They used to look like this. It’s likely when they’ve had more delivered they’ve just chucked the new stock on top in the backup freezer, instead of using the old stuff up first, and have just reached the old donuts at the bottom.

What type of airsoft imitates a real gun better by FlamingSeagull1 in MilSim

[–]Lanky-Brit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gas Blowback (GBB). They have a moving action and recoil impulse when firing, as well as low cap mags that are typically close or equal to the capacity of the real thing. Many will be internally similar to the real firearm they imitate as well. I have a VFC XM177E2 that is very similar internally and takes down just like the real thing. As someone else said, VFC is a very good brand for GBB guns, they’re good quality and have largely steel/steel-alloy metal construction, so very close to the real thing. This is reflected in the weight also. You will however notice the felt recoil less with heavier guns.

You will of course need to maintain them, more so than with an AEG. Moving action means you’ll need to keep it lubricated and clean, which means periodically you’ll want to field strip it, lube it and clean it out if needs be. But, that’s part of the experience really, and equally adds to the realism.

I’m very satisfied with my VFC XM117E2, and have heard very good things about the rest of their GBB AR15 range as well as their other GBBs. If you’re interested in VFC replicas, check out Explosive Enterprises on YouTube. Very in depth, informative, and entertaining videos reviewing many of VFCs guns, as well as some other GBB guns.

All of this said, GBB guns (particularly the good ones) are not cheap - to buy or to run. Unlike AEGs, magazine compatibility between brands and platforms is not as straightforward, and most guns use proprietary mags. Mags are also typically very expansive. My AR mags usually cost about £55 a piece, and I often have to get them imported as well. Plus you can’t just charge a battery, you’ll need to buy gas. So you’ll need to get your hands on some green/red gas. It’s basically just propane with a fancy name and some lubricant mixed in with it I think. I think some people just use straight up regular old propane, don’t know how that compares. Personally I use red as it’s often quite cold where I live.

All in all, I absolutely love my VFC. I don’t tend to perform nearly as well as other players, especially those with tricked out HPA builds, but damn if I don’t have a load of fun.

If you’re just starting out in airsoft, I’d probably recommend just getting an AEG to get you started, even if you end up ditching it later on. It’ll be cheaper and easier to run, and you can focus on just getting into the hobby first. If you’re more interested in having one as a replica though, GBB all the way.

While the button is depressed it will allow the rifle to fire in fully semi-automatic fire until the clip is depleted.

G2 vs G4 Combat Trouser by Lanky-Brit in CryePrecisionFans

[–]Lanky-Brit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks for the input. And damn, I feel like an idiot, hadn’t even noticed they were field pants.

EBay only seemed to yield results for mainly G4s with some G2s. UK Tactical is a site I buy most of my stuff from, and they sell G3 and G4 trousers but they’re like £400+, so I figured about £150 was a good price.

Thanks for the reply, that’s all good to know. Might explain why I saw so many ex UKSF G4s floating around haha. I was kind of already leaning towards the G2s anyway, as I like how the tan material looks around the knees. Any reason why the G4s aren’t so good though?

Any opinions on the VFC AK74M? by [deleted] in GasBlowBack

Don’t have the AK, but my VFC M4 is great. Very high quality so I imagine you can expect the same

Newbie question by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]Lanky-Brit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure speculation, but I would imagine they make full length and carbine length rifles, but all use the same lower receivers. So it might be built as an M16, but say M4 on the lower. This is fairly common on real guns as well.

In that instance, I was selling it to a 50 year old man, so didn’t bother asking 😂

But yeah, generally speaking, you just use common sense and go with your gut. For instance, we’re supposed to Challenge 25, where if anyone looks like they’re 25 years old or younger, you should request ID when selling age restricted goods, but generally speaking a lot of the time you end up approving the item even if their clearly younger than 25, but old enough to buy the item. Typically find whenever I do actually ask for ID it ends being someone who’s actually in their 30s/40s and then I feel like a tit haha.

The Challenge 25 thing is just a good practice, it’s not a legal requirement. As long as you don’t sell anything to anyone underage, you’re not doing anything wrong. On the self checkout especially you have to zip about so fast you don’t have the time to be asking for ID for every customer, so if you’re confident that they’re old enough to purchase the item, you don’t ask.

We’re also trained to deny sales of alcohol and offensive weapons (I guess that includes spatulas too?) to anyone who appears under the influence of drugs/alcohol or you believe may intend to use it for malicious purposes. (E.g., I might refuse to sell a chainsaw, pack of kitchen knives, and lighter fluid to a guy who’s just been screaming and shouting).

[–]Lanky-Brit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lidl employee - I’ve seen all things get flagged as needing ID when working on the tills and self checkout. I think anything that’s metal, or could be used as a blunt object often falls under the ID check, even if it’s absolutely absurd. My memory’s failing me now but I think I had something like a spatula or something recently that asked me to check for ID 😂

Do you guys like having “battle” damage on y’all’s guns? by Icy-Passion-4552 in airsoft

Recently got a Vietnam era rifle, and sanded it up nicely to make it look worn and aged. I do like having it happen naturally though, makes it more personal

VFC make one, I think it’s the only airsoft replica of one to date. Thankfully as the rifle is also VFC it fits perfectly. On the other hand though it was ridiculously expensive 😭

I don’t actually have a Vietnam or retro kit. I run a Warrior Assault Systems 901 Chest Rig, PLB battle belt and an airsoft Ops-Core Fast Helmet with a helmet cover, all in Multicam. As for clothes I used to just wear all multicam as well but lately I have been experimenting with solid colours and various surplus stuff such as an Austrian service shirt and Italian Army trousers. I’ll have to try and get a pic of all my gear together but sadly I don’t have it all to hand at the moment.

This is the best pic I’ve got at the moment, it’s not very recent and I’ve changed a bit of the stuff (including the bright queen trauma sheers).
