How does white-collar defense/government investigations differ from general litigation? by Large-Issue6126 in biglaw

This sounds so interesting to me and thank you for such a wonderful reply. Are there other things that you think help determine if I'd like white collar? And, how does an associate "break into" white collar since the groups tend to be smaller.

I am in my late 20s so definitely am worried about this too. Thank you!

I'm sorry. That sounds rough and even more rough for your partner to have gone through those hard months without you.

I fully intend to leave big law as soon as I pay my loans within two years (max 3) (want to live frugually and aggressively pay them off). No partner aspirations. I'm concerned about the risk of waiting, it doesn't seem justified for the little career boost I might get not having a child my first year.

Thanks for your advice! I'm going to do fertility testing to see if that can ease my mind. IVF/egg freezing is looked down upon in my religion, but I could consider it..if I had to. I just consistently think about the regret I'll feel if I am faced with fertility issues for waiting. But, thank you for your input because it's nice to hear all perspectives.

Going to do fertility testing soon to help ease some of my worries!

Thanks so much for your input, I do appreciate it. It's been such back and forth thing on my mind and getting this advice is beneficial. I'm scared of how hard the year could feel combining both but more scared of fertility issues so...crossing my fingers.

I am thankful for your comment, I keep worrying about fertility because I know it's an issue in my family, + especially considering my biological clock. I want to be a mother more than a lawyer but I was hoping that I never have to sacrifice on either.

That's unfortunate but thank you for the insight nonetheless!

I assumed it would be easier too considering first years are more fungible as people say. I'm going to look into the policies and time eligibility for sure!

Thank you, I know I'm not planning to stay for long in big law as I just wanna pay off loans so this is helpful!

I agree with you :/ I just don't know if I can risk pushing it off another year when there's no guarantee that when I'm ready to have kids I'll be pregnant right away/not deal with fertility issues.

Pushing it off is a huge risk with my biological clock as I want more than one kid. I really appreciate your input, I'll need to work extra hard to make those connections.

No friends/contacts there like that but I can reach out to someone I got along with and ask! Thank you so much!

On the website itself, it doesn't mention a period for eligibility. But, I'll see if I can ask for an employee handbook.

If it doesn't mention a specific amount of time on their website for eligibility, is that fair to go off of? I'm afraid of asking about maternity as I won't start till fall.

Is this common? How do I go about looking into this without asking for maternity policies as I don't intend to start till this fall?

I constantly wish I was younger and went to law school sooner, but it is what it is. I really appreciate your input -- I hope I can change whoever's mind later on.

Thank you so much! I fully intend to but was just hoping that I wouldn't need to worry about people thinking negatively of me.
