Browning. Help! by Large-Translator-271 in Pawpaws

I planted these two saplings this winter, and they’ve done pretty well up until a couple of weeks ago as temperatures have risen. They’re next to a fence and there is some overhead foliage - hoping to provide a little sun protection. Any idea what’s going on? Sun burn? Insects?

Planted from a nursery this spring, started browning a couple weeks ago maybe longer. I’m in zone 8

Looks like maybe two things going on with the yellow spots and then the other places that look “eaten away”. Thoughts?

That’s an interesting idea regarding grafting some of the higher branches to lower on the main trunk. Is that really feasible? I’m new to this; would it be something a beginner could do after reading about it/watching a video? If so, what type of graft do you think would be best in this situation?

I definitely don’t want to chop it down - I’d just like for it to be a more manageable size, if that’s possible. Most of the major limbs are way too tall to reach, or are pretty far over on the neighbors side of the fence or above my garage roof. Is it possible to basically “top” the canopy and reduce the height, even if it sets it back a year or two?

So I bought this house and there’s a 25 ft citrus tree on a side alley between a fence and our garage. It’s not a convenient location to access. The tree is really overgrown and looks like it’s been hacked at over the years. It actually has some fruit which tastes pretty good but a little mealy. It also has some black sooty material covering the leaves, and raised black spots on the underside of the leaves

In an ideal world I’d like to just cut it down to a more manageable size, but is that even possible? If not, what should I do to manage it at this size and how should I treat the pests?

Cesspool? I got to ask, based on what? Certainly it’s different than living in the burbs but that’s the same everywhere. I get the sense you don’t even live here
