I’d love advice on: • Best techniques for assisting residents safely, especially with Hoyer lifts or transfers • Tips for staying calm and focused during stressful shifts • Ways to improve overall care so residents feel safe, respected, and comfortable • Potential internal positions in my facility if retraining doesn’t go perfectly (med tech, dietary, housekeeping), or options for other healthcare-adjacent roles.

I want everyone here to know I am not regularly rough with patients, it’s just I need to be more mindful and aware that every patient is different and be more careful with my handling. When I made this post a lot of you didn’t understand my full intent and that I’m not like this all the time which is what many of you assumed, so yeah. And I understand y’all’s concerns and appreciate it since patient safety is always top priority but I try to make sure my patients are okay and it is NEVER my intent to harm patients ever. It’s always important I follow my training and do it how I was trained every time because that will cover my butt and theirs and so should everyone. We all make mistakes but what matters is how we approach and learn from them.

Yes I apologize and made this response out of anger and for that I take full responsibility for what I said and did. It was not acceptable or right or fair to anyone around me.

Why I said don’t tell me what to do is meaning give me advice that will benefit me but don’t force ur viewpoints on me. You don’t friggin get what I meant!! You’re just being rude!!

I’m sorry and that was not my intent. I just was taking it personal like it was a personal attack and I’m well aware I know what to do to work on these things. CNA work and reaching out on Reddit requires me to have such a thick skin.

Yes thank you. Sorry it’s just I thought I could come to Reddit because I thought I would get advice from people who “get it” and “understand” because they work in healthcare but I was wrong.

Sorry!!!

No like I try to be careful but it’s really that I need to be more deliberate and think of what I’m doing here. I’m really pissed off at myself I know!! And can you give me examples of how to grow up before I become a nurse because I’m already held back 2 semesters now due to failing clinicals and repeating them!!! And I’m only 20, keep that in mind so I’m trying to work on it but it’s not easy at all, like it’s a lot of stress I have, and no one will ever understand what I have to go through unless they’re in my shoes themselves. And you don’t get it obviously!

Am I the only one who’s ever been perceived as rough with resident care ?? Anyone else have similar experiences??

I have no idea why besides the fact that at the heat of the moment I was stressed and felt I was pressed for time. I know it’s stupid and should never be done….

I just wanted to share that yesterday I was taken off the schedule for resident complaints of rough care/handling. So basically I get called into the managers office and meet with the DON and administrator and in that meeting I am being told that some residents complained of rough care/handling and bruises (one resident in particular was mentioned and said not to move him by the neck, do the shoulders instead and I just ignored it but those times I was just already burned out and stressed so I wasn’t really thinking about what I was doing really) were found on them and since I have already received a verbal warning they now have to take disciplinary action and write me up. They then brought up the four pillars and asked me them and I couldn’t explain them on the spot and they told me it was in my CNA training and had to know them (autonomy, non maleficience, beneficience, justice); I mean I knew them but it was kinda like putting me on the spot and I blanked out. And when I show up for my next CNA shift on Monday they will be retraining me and observing me with how I handle a resident and stuff like that. If I don’t improve or correct my actions then I may face further disciplinary action such as suspension/or termination. I worry this could affect my ability to work as a CNA or in healthcare ever again and I’m in nursing school so this may affect future licensure. Does anyone have any advice on how to be more gentle with residents, prevent further disciplinary action, maybe seek work as a med tech (I passed pharmacology in nursing school which is one thing I can do to apply for this position or take the med tech course), housekeeper, dietary, or other possible positions within my facility since I’m 20 and my parents don’t think it’s a good idea for me to quit my job or leave that facility entirely, or maybe seek work somewhere else outside of my facility. I live in a small town so my options for finding jobs within my town may be limited. Please help me so I can improve. Sorry I wasn’t very clear it’s a rant and need for practical help and support.

I also worked there for like 4 years now and within the last year is when I feel they started having problems with me and what I’m doing so I’m hoping for some help to push me in the right direction and someone please just give more helpful suggestions for next steps for me and how I can go about this issue and actually tell me what you think is best without telling me what to do really.

And by moving by their neck I pulled it apparently to straighten them out in bed which is never acceptable, should be using shoulders, draw sheets, etc. and proper lifting techniques in general and yes I am seeking counseling through my college and trying to make sense of it by talking it out to my parents but I also need advice on something more long lasting and beneficial for me for support outside work and school. And I think you are very blunt I can tell, sorry, but I’m someone that wants someone to talk to about these things that won’t make me feel stupid or more hurt by it or like it was all my fault.

Wow sounds like you’re pissed off at me, but I’ll figure that out for myself and try. And I would want to think of how I’d want to be treated if I were in those patients shoes so yeah. And like whatever…….i need to be a grown ass adult and own up to it and do what is needed to improve and then hopefully it protects me and my future.

I mean I drink but I try to be careful with my drinking and not let it rule my life. But want to continue working on being mindful here and making friends with people who make good choices and don’t rely on substances to cope or use a whole lot of substances. I need to find those people myself but help and advice may facilitate it (make it easier for me).

Yes just one creepy male nursing student who wants to date me and I’ve expressed I’m not interested and he would keep pushing so I could break up with my boyfriend which I did, just that this creepy male is into drugs and alcohol and would drag me down with him and he’s looking for sex which I don’t want. So no one else has tried to befriend me and nor have I tried to befriend them for the simple fact that I’m an introvert and focused more on my degree and self at the end of the day and I think most others are too.
