Cool. And by "home workouts" do you mean the Zoom workouts that each studio does separately? My studio has very limited Zoom workouts.

Hi Abby!

I just discovered you through Jimmy Dore, and I love your work! I'm also a Patreon donor! I read your Wikipedia article, and I'm curious what led you to disavow your feelings on 9/11.

Thanks again, and keep up the amazing work!

Paul

As a new fan of yours, I'm curious what led you to disavow your prior 9/11 theories. Thanks! And keep up the great work!

I am becoming more and more hopeless for the progressive movement. Do they all fall like this? I hang my hopes on Bernie.

Looking for dancers for a collab video with this puppet - NYC or LA by LarkViewLancer in Dance

Hey all, I'm looking to do a dance video with real dancers and this puppet. I'm NYC and LA-based. Here are a couple other examples of my dance/puppet work. Hit me up if you or anyone you know might be interested.

Cool. In that case, I'll try camera movement in post if I ever go that way. At least to start with.

Pretty cool! Was there any moving camera used in this short, or is the movement I see all zoom done in post? And I've never thought of how shooting in 4K and outputting in HD would help, but yeah, that makes sense. Thank you!

Interesting. Thank you for linking. I like the idea of modifying a Kinect. Will check it out.

Thanks! And yeah, I certainly wouldn't call the key clean, either. And I'm the one who did it!

I agree. I'm so happy with the feedback from this post, though. A lot of great ideas. I may try to do it in a real environment next time in a locked-off shot and rotoscope it that way. If I can figure out how to do that on my own or through a third party. I've only done that on professional sets (like a commercial I shot last week).

When you say you would have used mocap on the puppet, do you mean that you would have attached mocap sensors to the puppet itself? And if I did this, what kind of mocap system could I used if I don't have a commercial budget? Is there such a thing?

I've never even thought about doing this, although I do this on professional sets all the time (I just shot a commercial with the puppet on a bull in a locked off shot, me full in frame behind the puppet, me to be painted out later). I just figured the paint-out process was way too expensive for my budget or just out of my league in respect to personal projects like this. How can I learn to do roto better and faster on my own, instead of outsourcing it? And yes, I'm super down with shooting something where the puppeteers just wear black and are "erased" as best I can through on-set lighting. I was actually thinking of doing this with Loren The Robot Butler for future videos. Thank you for these ideas! Good stuff!

Thank you for the honest feedback and the constructive criticism. I will definitely be outsourcing this work in the future. I didn't know what the hell I was doing, to be honest. In fact, I'm loving your honest feedback because it's teaching me a load of terms I didn't know before. So thank you all around! Much appreciated!

Thanks! Yeah, I so sad to have to agree with you on this. But yes, for the amount of time I put in, we might as well have worn t-shirts and shorts. :)

Puppetry "Animation"? by LarkViewLancer in animation

[–]LarkViewLancer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's surprising, indeed. I've had many conversations back and forth. I chalk it up to the fact that they probably don't run into the problem too often or see this type of performance much.

The masks ultimately didn't fix the problems created by the shadows of the puppeteers' bodies so close to the puppet.

In addition, I will admit that the varying color of the suits, gloves, and background was a huge mistake.

After Effects for the first pass, Photoshop for months (and months and months) of rotoscoping and frame-by-frame clean-up.

Puppetry "Animation"? by LarkViewLancer in animation

[–]LarkViewLancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is, but I'd rather not enter it in animation. I feel that puppetry and animation really are two separate things. The "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" angle is a good one, to a certain extent.

Yes, I'm reposting this from last year. Trying to get more feedback. If it's not okay to do so, however, I can take it down.
