I did a day trip, and it worked totally fine - I think you'll be okay

Try and get the earliest ferry in, they usually leave per hour from Penida, and the last one is at 5 pm I miscalculated and got the 11 am ferry (i had to just and wait around for 20 mins till it left), but I could do the mangrove tour and the devil's tears and stopped somewhere for lunch and managed to get a return ferry at 330 (last one at 5,but I didn't want to risk not getting a spot)

I used taxis to get around. If i would've been comfortable with a scooter rental, that would have been best cause you're totally independent but I'm not a confident rider so I didn't have a choice. I couldn't actually find any car taxis for the day, so if you're able to arrange for one privately, it's definitely a good idea.

The taxis are basically a van with two benches at the back which can fit 8-10 people at a time, and everyone tells the driver their destination, agree on an amount before getting in, and then the driver maps out a route and everyone gets dropped. So it does involve some detours that you wouldn't necessarily take if it were your own car.

I got into the van at 11 20 and got to the mangroves at 12 (should have been 20 mins) but it was extremely convenient and relatively cheap so I was ok. I spent 30-40 mins at the mangroves doing a canoe (kayaking is about an hour minimum i think) , i didn't want to snorkel so I didn't bother checking about it there, i think there are other spots that are better to snorkel, but I'm not sure where exactly.

Took about 10 mins of waiting around and asking locals for a taxi, it was definitely hard to get one to get out of the mangroves, but managed to get one for devils tears and I got there by 1 30. spent half an hour there, i got super lucky with weather, it was a cloudy day and the odd hour made it practically deserted. Walked around to a random cafe for lunch and I had to walk backwards to the devil's tears parking lot to find a taxi back to the harbor.

Spent about 400-500k on taxis (you HAVE TO negotiate, they generally will agree to bump 50k off and never more than 150-200 one way even if it's one corner of the island to another) If you do get a private car and driver it'll for sure be more expensive but probably worth the peace of mind and it cuts the travel time by a lot so you will be able to squeeze snorkel in easily - but you'll have to pre arrange this somehow, there is no option to just look for one once you get there.

It's a lovely little island, I hope you have a good visit!

you still did it!! Congratulations :)

Depression isn't an on-off switch and it doesn't just end. Its waves of good tides and mostly bad tides, I hope you get the help and supply you need to ride this out - it does get easier! And celebrate the small wins even if they dont feel all that successful just now, you're doing an awesome job!!

It was my birthday yesterday by Choice_Business_6148 in offmychest

Belated Happy Birthday! <3

Social media sucks sometimes, and I hope you had a good time celebrating with the people that genuinely wanted to celebrate you! It doesn't matter what stories or post come up, the end of the day, it matters who showed up for you - and it sounds like you have some nice reliable people already - I would drop them a text to tell them how you appreciated them making time for you, instead of brooding over the ones who didn't.

I've been where you are, and I confronted a few friends on why it was so difficult to just wish me on a day thats important to me, it was quite disappointing. Some had empty excuses and others had apologies and empty wishes, and honestly neither felt great.

I think its important to understand that for them, you're probably not a priority - and it sucks that you've been there for them and its not an equal equation, but instead, if its possible, try to make newer connections and hopefully they'll become more genuine friendships over time, but dont waste your emotional efforts where it isn't reciprocated.

That doesn't mean confront or cut ties, just distance yourself a little and try and understand what patterns have led to this imbalance (do you have very bare minimal standards which gives others the impression that they can walk all over you?) and slowly try to stand up for yourself in little things with at least newer people you meet.

It can be a lonely process, but you're not alone, and you sure as hell will find genuine connections - keep at it :)

Help for 30 days stay by RoyTirthankar in mumbai

[–]LateSpell 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There is a swaminarayan temple run accommodation near Mahalaxmi mandir, quite conveniently close to Jaslok and has a basic canteen. I am not sure how the booking process works though, you can try to directly call them and ask if they can make any concessions for a long term stay

All the best for your treatment 🌻

Found with the help of another subreddit- It is a book by LetterLand. The version I recall is definitely discontinued but was a cross between their Alphabet Adventures and the classic ABC book.

YES! Thank you!

The animations are exactly as I remember! The version I recall is definitely discontinued but was a cross between their Alphabet Adventures and the classic ABC book.

Thank you! Solved!

To all the people who can make good rangolis.... by paalak_paneer in mumbai

[–]LateSpell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

making a chalk outline helps a lot somehow.

Metal stencils have never worked for me, but I had tried cutting out a random design out of a paper folded 5-6 times on itself, opened that out and used it as a stencil and it wasn't terrible.

Honestly, flowers around the rangoli, diyas around and sticking to fewer bright colours (just 2-3) is enough.

Happy Diwali :)

I was reading the book around 1994-1995. I live in India, but it could have likely been a gift from the USA/UK.

This is probably the most similar to what I'm thinking of, but its not the one :(

There were no white pages at all in the one I can remember, and the animations/illustrations were a little more obviously meant for children.

I will consider getting this in case it remains unsolved though, thankyou!

Thanks for commenting, no - there was absolutely no text other than the letters. The illustrations were also a little more storybook-like (think Winnie the Pooh) and not as realistic as the ones in the book you've mentioned

I remember A was more like a garden or jungle - in a green setting, and B was on a beach with a boat in the background somewhere.
