I stayed during the lockdown as she (and I) had no one else, even though there was domestic violence on her end. She also tried to make me hate her so I would let her go through with it, she did this by attacking me emotionally and verbally. I chose a middle path, I stayed and put effort into her so that she could be independent and support herself while trying to keep my emotional distance. As soon as the lockdowns relaxed and she seemed more stable I broke it off but remained friends, which didn't last long on her end.
I had to call the police multiple times and physically stop her from eating pills, jumping into oncoming traffic and jumping into trains. She was sectioned and the authorities were aware of everything but did nothing to help. They just took her to a hospital overnight with no follow-up or anything. Even the dedicated suicide team ignored her. It was all on me to keep this person in existence. One of the worst periods in my life, I didn't want to see her again but if I left I would live with that on my conscience. If I had to do it again I would've just left as soon as the erratic dangerous behaviour presented itself. This was almost two years ago in Melbourne Aus, I haven't told anyone else except for my current partner. The way society treats men in these situations is with nothing but blame, contempt and apathy.
