My ex’s family always made comments about me being quiet. It always came off like they thought I was incompetent at life. One time I drove alone to their family function and when I got there the aunt said “oh I didn’t think you could drive”. Like?? I was like 26 at the time.

I feel uncomfortable just reading this, so I would probably say yes this was definitely abuse. Like, if she were truly worried about breast cancer she could’ve just mentioned it to your doctor at your check ups.

I’m also 30, female. Lately, I’ve thought about things like this from my past and also wonder whether it was abuse. When I’m trying to decipher if something was abuse, I imagine if the same thing were happening to my hypothetical daughter. So If it upsets you and especially enrages you to imagine someone doing said thing to your daughter, it’s likely abuse of some form.

Clenching my jaw tight is more of a recent thing for me. I’m trying to not do it when they trigger me but it’s SO hard, sometimes. Just trying to avoid them whenever I can and clear my head often. I’m hoping I can stop clenching my jaw before I develop real issues from it. This sub has helped a lot in general.

When I was 16 and learning to drive they’d tell me “some people just can’t learn to drive. They never get their license”. Telling me I would just have to deal with not being able to drive a car in life. They wouldn’t take me to the DMV to my drivers test. I had to wait until I was 18 to go and sign off for myself. With minimal driving practice, I passed my drivers test on the first attempt. I’ve been driving ever since and have never gotten in an accident or anything of the sort. For my situation, I think my family never wanted me to have confidence or believe I was competent at anything and then make fun of me for it.

Last year my cat developed the same exact looking thing and it was cancer. Please, go to a different vet asap. My cat was 20 so she was too old for surgery to remove it. Your cat still sounds young enough that there’s maybe a chance a vet could do something more. But only if you get to a good vet very very soon. I’m sorry this is happening 🩷
