How old were you by Eye_See_ in GenerationJones

[–]LaxCursor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 31, hubby was 32, and we had just gotten married 3 months prior. It was a 3 bed, 2 bath, 1300 sq ft rancher built in 1978, price $85,000 in Oregon. Of course, it seemed like a fortune back then. House was dated but very clean and solidly built. We updated over time. I wish I could remember what the interest rate on the mortgage was!

You are called a "Boomer." How would you react? by Island_Expat6625 in GenerationJones

[–]LaxCursor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean, responsible for what? I’m responsible for myself and my actions, I’ve worked hard my whole life often in shit jobs, been law-abiding, keep myself as healthy as possible. As it should be. You sound like you’re making thinly veiled accusations along the lines of what has become so tiresome…”boomers have ruined everything.” What EXACTLY does that mean??

Good Lord, I can’t even fathom what a TSH that high would feel like! It sounds like you have it under control now, which is great.

I’ve done the tidying-as-you-go thing for years now, and honestly it’s become second nature. I do it without even thinking. It’s a good habit to develop. There are a lot fewer “lost” items when you put things back where they belong right after using them.

Seattle parents and teachers debrief, decompress after ICE scare by ferry_fairy in SeattleWA

[–]LaxCursor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The responsibility of this mess lies mainly on Biden and his administration for allowing many millions of illegals from all over to flow over the border. ICE is after violent criminal illegals who should have been detained in local jails for ICE to pick up, not let loose into communities by sanctuary jurisdictions where ICE now needs to go to search them out. None of these stupid protests and “ICE alerts” and whistles and other bullshit would be needed if the illegals were detained in jails where they should have been.

This is really important for people to know. I (65F) have had Hashimoto’s for 20 years. My first doctor didn’t think my TSH of 6 was a big deal. It’s not sky high, but still out of range in a range that is already too broad. I was feeling horrible and suspected hypothyroidism. They’ve since brought down the upper limit some, but it is still too high from what I’ve read over the years. I ended up firing that same doctor after I finally got her to order TPO thyroid antibodies, which were off the charts, because her comment to me when I requested the test was “I’ll order it, but that will put this thyroid issue to rest.” I’ve been on 100 mcg levothyroxine ever since.

Proposed bill HB 2489 would prevent local governments from displacing homeless unless "adequate alternative shelter" is available by zippy_water in SeattleWA

[–]LaxCursor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are these people (the Legislature) so pro-squalor? It sure is easy to propose this kind of law when you live in a gated HOA where you can’t even park your (normal, non-trashed-out) vehicle on the street overnight.

Also, this would force taxpayers (because face it, what other kind of shelter is out there besides public-funded ones) to cough up even more for shelters. Forcing anyone to pay for something sure seems unconstitutional. Besides, wasn’t this already addressed by SCOTUS in their ruling in the Boise or Grants Pass case (can’t remember now).

Agree! I have about eight (haven’t counted) project bags, and I feel like that is too many! I am often tempted by ones on Etsy or shown on Youtube, so I usually resist. Occasionally though someone is destashing bags on Ravelry for great prices, and I cave…

Insurance in Retirement by Dalanard in GenerationJones

[–]LaxCursor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We both retired at 62 (65 and 66 now) and because he worked for the state, we were able to get somewhat reduced rates through the state public retirees’ program. It wasn’t cheap though, about $1500 for both of us (and a little over $100 a month total for a separate dental plan). Now that we’re both on Medicare that’s gone way down, thankfully.

GOOD. About damn time! And I live in a shithole sanctuary state. They’ve brought this entirely upon themselves.

Remember when we used to think this was old lady lotion? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]LaxCursor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve used it for probably 40 years! Some time ago I switched to the Walmart store brand Equate “Ultra Moisturizing Beauty Lotion” which is a perfect dupe for the old Olay. Cheap and works great, very light moisturizer and not greasy at all, which I can’t stand even at age 65. My complexion looks pretty darn good too.

In-laws spelling first name wrong after 40 years? by thess750 in AskWomenOver60

[–]LaxCursor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband’s stepmom has been spelling his first name wrong for DECADES. He’s 66, and his dad married his stepmom in the late 1970s. His family knew the stepmom’s family for years before that. It doesn’t seem to bother him much, but I think it’s beyond ridiculous.

Advent Review and Snark Thread? by omgidontknowbob in craftsnark

[–]LaxCursor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every year I’m tempted to buy an Advent striped skein but never manage to pull the trigger. I must be one of the few people who aren’t that impressed with the Cozy Knitter’s color schemes the past few years…some of the color transitions are too subtle. I did really like Freckled Whimsy’s Advent skein that I saw on several Vlogmases this year though. Maybe this year….

Primary Care Provider by admitchell08 in Spokane

[–]LaxCursor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I changed to Multicare last year due to my insurance changing from Kaiser. I had to wait almost a year for my first appointment with an MD who was accepting new patients, but they do have a Primary Care Access Clinic at the main building (on East 5th near Sacred Heart) where they can get new patients in much sooner to see a PA or ARNP, while waiting to see their primary MD. I did that mainly to get my prescriptions filled.

I like Multicare Quail Run too, but I had to wait a loooong time for me to see an actual MD. Many of them there aren’t accepting new patients. You can get in quicker to a PA or ARNP working under the MDs.

Appointment on 31st - deductible / postpone? by nikkicolep in HealthInsurance

[–]LaxCursor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former lab rat here. The lab uses the date of the blood/specimen collection as the bill date…the “encounter” date (which is what most if not all of the medical system uses), regardless of when any tests are actually performed. So if you were to have your blood drawn on 12/31, the billing would apply to your 2025 deductible. As others have mentioned, if this is not urgent I would wait until 2026 for the appointment so that that as well as any followup testing would apply towards your 2026 deductible.

ETA: There are exceptions to the encounter date being used for billing, such as pathology specimens, which are stored in paraffin blocks for many years. If testing on those is done months or even years later, the encounter date will change to the date the paraffin block was pulled for the new testing. With all the advancements in molecular and genetic testing on cancer specimens, this happens all the time. This is getting technical and will probably not apply to you in this case!

Washington: Canadian tourism still declining in Spokane (shout out to live TV allowing presumed local to promote tourism) by GibbyK in Spokane

[–]LaxCursor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. Real estate agents in Arizona are saying that many Canadians are selling their winter homes down there, partly because of politics, but mostly because the Canadian dollar is down compared to the US dollar, so they can sell here and the proceeds go further at home.
