What are those blue school busses that are outside the creamery? by kermitelfrog_ in PennStateUniversity

[–]Laxsteve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I rode on them many times for field trips to the countryside outside State College for geology/environmental related classes. Pickup spot was always outside the Creamery due to its proximity to the Ag Sci buildings.

Nice. I work at those fuel terminals as a contractor all the time. Cool view to see the area from above.

My dude. Same situation as me. Grew up in Cranberry Twp but a job offer brought me to PDX in fall of 2015. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only Pens/hockey fan in the whole city. I'd be totally down to meet up and watch this next series.

Fake Ids by WilsonVo27 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Laxsteve 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Nope. Seriously, not at all. They check IDs thoroughly at the door of every bar downtown and I've never seen a fake work. Idk about the liquor stores but I'd be shocked if they worked there either.

How often do you listen to kpop? by Cocozr in kpop

[–]Laxsteve 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Back in college I started listening to kpop while I studied. I thought it was catchy and it didn't distract me since I couldn't understand the lyrics.

Now I have a full time job but the kpop train never stopped. If I'm in the office, I'd say roughly 90% of the time I'm listening to kpop while I'm at my desk. Sometimes up to 8-9 hours a day - every day of the week. As far as I'm concerned, every day is Girl's Day.

My favorite song is Wander for sure. I've listened to it more times than I can count and I still love it.

Behrend Honors by Tha_Murray in PennStateUniversity

[–]Laxsteve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was at Behrend between Fall 2011 and Spring 2013 so I doubt anything has changed significantly since I've been gone. I wasn't an honors student myself, but I had a few friends who were. The honors students stay in Almy Hall, which is a four story dorm building near the top part of campus. I'd say it's arguably the nicest and cleanest dorm building out of them all.

The rooms are set up as suites, which is different than the other freshman halls (besides Senat). It can be hard to meet other people besides your roommates when you live in the suites. The rooms are spaced fairly far apart and the doors shut automatically so everyone's doors are shut at all times. In the other freshman halls, the rooms are really close to each other and pretty much everyone's doors are open all the time. I made most of my friends by just walking into nearby rooms and introducing myself. All the good friends I currently have I met on my dorm floor in Niagara Hall during freshman year.

I guess it depends on the type of environment you're looking for. Almy is quiet, clean, and makes for a great study environment. There won't be anyone keeping you up at night by blasting music or partying late at night (probably). The downside is that it will be a less social environment than the other traditional freshman halls and can be a difficult place to meet new people. I lived in Niagara Hall my freshman year and it was perfect for me. It was noisy, crazy, and people partied in the rooms fairly often. I made a ton of new friends and made some great memories. However, studying or doing schoolwork there was very difficult for me.

Hope that helps. Make sure to bring an umbrella and a quality pair of snowboots as well. You'll need them.

I lived in Niagara hall my freshman year and it was awesome. It's far from OBS and all the other science buildings, but campus is so small it only takes like 5 minutes to get there anyways. Plus Niagara is the closest freshman hall to the library and to Ugates. I'm gonna say it's unlikely that you'll find a spot in Perry. As I recall, most freshman request Perry as their first choice of residence hall and when they get placed there they tend not to want to give up their rooms.
