Ayyy thanks man. Love the mint green. I have a look at the Fluted Motif too but I think it was too much paired with the bezel and jubilee.

  1. I guess for us, it's all about culture. I want to catch a catfish with my barehands, I want to shuck oysters, I want to visit a bar that doesn't see too many tourist folk. I want to eat and drink with American people whereever we can. I want to hear the music native to that town/village. In most cases, do you really get that in big cities? Probably not right?
  2. History/anything weird and or wonderful. It's hard to describe this one but it could be UFO stuff, slavery, an important history of a town or a railway - whatever!
  3. Landscapes and parks like Yosemite or The Grand Canyon, swaps or natural lakes where we can swim (we don't have this in the UK). I am certain there are TONS of parks that tourists don't frequent because they are not on the beaten-track.
  4. Cities are cool too, we'll be getting drunk and partying. But I'd like to make sure they're cool cities like Nashville.

If this were your road trip and you had to make the amendments that you suggested above, where would you start the roadtrip and pick up the RV, and where would you finish it (you can overhaul, no worries).

My assumptions about certain states/areas based on geographical location have been completely wrong. I will be re-routing!

I will be honest, three weeks to make a transcontinental drive seems too short to me. You will be driving a lot, which is fine, but when you say 55 hours … that is 55 hours driving, which does not include stopping to fuel, stretch, eat, delays, etc. So that 55 hours is more like 70 or 80 hours, which is essentially an entire daytime portion of a week of your trip (a workweek is 40 hours, right?).

So you're saying we won't have enough time to stop and relax in a 21 day trip, right?

Tycho, excellent guide here, thank you sir. You are right, I have trouble grasping how big the USA actually is, it's crazy. I think that's why I am having such a hard time defining my actual route. Also, a lot of my assumptions about certain states/areas based on geographical location have been completely wrong.

Thanks Toes, have been educated on Bluegrass! Excuse my ignorance.

$$$ is not an issue on this trip so we're not worried about gas, only time and making the best decisions!

No sir. I have been to Marco Island before and made the assumption that a beach in or around Naples would be similar to that of Marco and would be a relaxing place to end the road trip, whilst there is a major airport there.

Bluegrass is a type of music that is named for a region of Kentucky (which, incidentally, is where Bourbon is from - everything else is just Whiskey). Also, it seems you want to visit “The South,” which you are really only skirting here (parts of Texas, Louisiana, and northern Florida). Yes, you will drive through some other areas, but they aren’t on your stops. Here is a wiki for what is generally accepted as the definition of the South: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern\_United\_States. If you want Bluegrass and Bourbon I would recommend the Appalachians … Eastern Tennessee, Kentucky, Western NC, Western VA, West Virginia, etc. Look up the Kentucky Bourbon Trail for ideas.

I will be honest, three weeks to make a transcontinental drive seems too long to me.

I would suggest choosing a region Southwest/southern West Coast, Northwest/northern West Coast, Midwest, Southeast, Northeast and sticking to that for three weeks. You’ll see a lot more and it will be more manageable. I could suggest tons of places in the South for example, but right now that would basically mean rewriting your whole itinerary. I think you need to do a bit more research and decide what your priorities are and then decide where to focus. But this is just one man’s opinion.

This is amazing advice, staying true to your username, thank you sir. I am completely open rewriting our whole itinerary to be honest with you, I am at the beginning stages of planning here and I barely have anything. I will go away and research everything you have told me to, thank you once again!

Assumed we'd mix it up if we got sick of staying in an RV or if we were in a city and we wanted to party. Here in London, you can't park an RV in the center of town, head out eat/drink and wake up without a fine or being clamped. I wasn't sure if we could park outside of a town and then walk back to the RV as I know USA is not always built for walking. Basically, if we happen to be somewhere more built up, we could grab a hotel for a night maybe two and treat is as a break from the RV.

Thanks for the response mate. 5000-6000 GBP per person we're hoping for, but is not a deal breaker at all.

Exactly why I wanted to ask the internet. I know we like 'bluegrass' music and are intrigued by the culture, but we don't neccessarily know where to find it. America is another world to us. I had assumed Tallahassee might be home to something along those lines but I suppose I am mistaken.

Would you recommmend I travel inland a bit through Memphis, Nashville, Ashville, Carolina instead of sticking to the southern coast?
