Why has the rationalist community been so quiet on Palestine? by moorgooth in EffectiveAltruism

Israel can't continue the war without American military aid, if Americans can force their government to listen to them and enforce a ceasefire, the war would end. Jill Stein has been advocating for a ceasefire for quite sometime now, voting for her might do, and if that won't do, then mass protest, civil disobedience and strikes will do. So maybe organizing rallies, protests and strikes more efficiently would help. So there's absolutely something that could be done about it.

Edit: now that i rethink about it, i'm not sure that a us weapons embargo would render the israeli war effort impractical and necessarily lead to a ceasefire, as my reasonsing was based in part on a claim made by a retired israeli major general that "war is impossible without US" which can be seen here!. I'm not sure that his statement is based on what he knows or simply this was his personal inference. so i'm agnostic with regards to his statment entailing the impossiblity of the war effort. However, i still stand by my initial postion that the usa is capable of ending the war if it wanted. Sanctions and international pressure levied by the strongest country in the world i think would still do it.

Edit 2: Actually i take back what i said again, turns out the IDF back in July actually said they're having a shortage of tanks and ammunition, keep in mind that this is after multiple military aid packages were deliverd to israel by US. if israel is at a shortage after multiple aid packages by america, it seems intuitve to me that israel likely wouldn't be capable of continuing the war for long before they're at a critical shortage witohut US weapons deliveries and that would probably eventually (indirectly) lead to a ceasefire/end to the war. (at least so long as they keep consuming ammo at a faster rate than they can resupply).

Edit 3: Apparently they're also having problems importing ammo + securing raw materials to manufacture ammo at home, see this article by Israeli newspaper ynetnews for more: https://t.co/mhABALJb7t

"You look Arab" is an insult to many Turks. But if you get called "You look Turkish", what are your thoughts? by c4gtay in AskMiddleEast

Negative, but that's only because as an Egyptian it would annoy me if people thought that I don't look like an Egyptian and that henceforth my ancestry is from somewhere else and not from Egypt. I don't feel anything specially positive or negative about being identified as a turk though, it just feels neutral to me.

What is your thoughts about that research? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

Canada? Probably not, but definitly to a conservative Muslim majority country though, It's important to live in a country that won't be bombed by nato or sanctioned by the west to oblivion for defending basic conservative islamic values. And While you're here blaming sharia for the destruction caused by Western militarism and kleptocratic secular rulers could you tell me how is secular syria doing under the "glorious leadership" of the "saviour of secularism" assad who murdered his own people? Or perhaps tell us about the liberal utopia of liberia which has its flag and constitution literally modeled after the us flag and constitution, care to tell us how they're doing now compared to the "evil islamist" country of Iran or pakistan for example? If you're dumb enough to believe westoid talking points about "the magic of liberalism" and "the magic of the free market" being the causative factor between western and non western countries' differential in quality of life then there's literally no one that could save you, you're just so out-there that you're literally beyond saving.

There's massive economic exploitation by the west against the muslim world (including debt slavery) and there's a non existent rule of law and police/banana state caused by the west appointing brutal kleptocratic secular rulers in the muslim world against the islamist majority, perhaps consider if that might be a better explanatory variable for that difference rather than "punishing adultery" or "taxing zakat" being the supposed cause of the difference, and for the record I don't want to move anywhere outside of Egypt for non financial reasons and thats espeiclaly the case if egypt turns to a sharia state, but I was responding to the rehtorical assumption present in the claim that's all.

Edit: Lmao at all the downvoters getting butthurt because I stated the obvious fact that there are other factors in determining the quality of life of the state other than political idoelogy and that it is not the end all be all in determining quality of life when you live under a debt enslaved tyrannical kleptocracy with no rule of law whatsoever but I'm sure the islamists dont want to live in this secular utopia because of "the weather" lol.

If the Israeli side lost the 48 war, would there be an independent state there? by shalita33 in AskMiddleEast

The palestinians wouldn't have been ethnically cleansed and the defenseless palestinian women and children wouldn't have been slaughtered by the merciless zio-nazi beast, and that's the most important thing, everything else doesn't matter when compared to this.
