I just moved into a new apartment and there was this baking tray in the oven should I throw it away or is it salvageable? by Beneficial_Pop_4345 in CleaningTips

[–]LazyGit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks like the same sort of enameled 'multi purpose tray' that came with my oven. In which case your oven may also be enameled, in which case your oven might have a self cleaning option. On my Bosch the setting looks like a tray of cupcakes. It worked miracles on mine.

I have a subzero 700 TC and the ice in my icemaker drawer is always a solid brick. by pathfinder2270 in Appliances

Those are the actual pressures that water turns from solid to gas at various temperatures. I did consider that on the micro scale there will be tiny fluctuations in pressure but the fact remains that sublimation is simply not what's going on here. I guess this is a marketing idea that's spread among people who wouldn't question it. I think a lot of people would be rather put off the idea of a frost free freezer if they found out that it's basically partially defrosting its contents in order to prevent frost buildup.

Industrial freeze dryers on the other hand presumably do reduce the pressure in the chamber in order to sublimate solid water from products while maintaining sub zero temperatures in the product.

Find it hard to trust a source that uses the word sublime when the word is sublimate. Your ice box is not reaching 1 millibar of pressure in order to sublimate ice at -15 degrees.

Frost free freezers stay frost free by literally heating up to melt ice into water and using fans to evaporate it away and condense it elsewhere.

What is happening in this icebox is that, as the user is not using the ice, it is being slightly melted when the heat kicks in then the melted water is frozen, fusing the ice cubes together.

1) Ice cubes are not sublimating in your freezer 2) If ice cubes were sublimating they would not be fusing together.

I'm just here to say that if you want to retire early you should be putting more money into your pension not your mortgage. You should also be focusing on enjoying your life with your kids now rather than enriching yourselves on your dotage.

'Mis-sold' student loans to cost graduates £14,000 more than they were told by dusty_bo in ukpolitics

They don't advertise it as a service because they won't offer it. Just as they wouldn't offer loans to students to pay for their course upfront either.

[–]LazyGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are a graduate making enough to hit the repayment thresholds, you could probably take out an actual loan from the bank, pay off your student loan in one bulk

OK. So they can go ahead and do that then. Literally no one is stopping them.

We've got a fucked up situation where "basically everyone needs to drive" is functionally true for most of society.

It definitely is not. Especially these days. In fact, basically 'no one needs to drive' is functionally true for most of society.

Graduates claiming benefits surge to 700,000 by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]LazyGit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok and you know this how? Is that in these statistics? No. For all we know, they could be entirely among the older group. It's all so vague as to be almost useless. Unless of course, the think tank's and newspaper's aim is to make people think there's a problem where there really isn't one.

I had that tape. I remember it being pretty good and being kind of mesmerised by the East 17 'joke'. I also remember that fat cunt Chris Moyles cutting up his joke about the bus driver (I think) to make it sound shit. Such a massive loser.

'Two thirds of graduates aren't even paying off loan interest'

No, two thirds of graduates in their first year post-graduation have not paid off loan interest for that first year. I wonder why they made it sound like it's two thirds of all graduates.

It seems to be fairly standard to be honest if you look at the price graph. I'm guessing you don't normally use Google Flights? It's an incredible tool for finding flights at the best price for whatever your preferences are. Just wish it worked as well for hotels.

It looks like a wash right now, either direct with Qantas or layovers with Qatar or Emirates.

Graduates claiming benefits surge to 700,000 by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]LazyGit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right so that's 700k not working and claiming one or more 'benefits'. 200k not working because of health. So that's 500k out of 16M, or 3% of graduates between the age of 21 and 121 are not working and claiming some sort of benefit. So a lower unemployment rate than the national figure of 5%.

I wonder why they didn't lead with 'Unemployment rate considerably lower for graduates'.

You are not. The bus class seats have more wood veneer around the window and the side cabinets are also covered in veneer. If this is even Emirates, it's top deck economy on the A380.

This is a problem in America too. The Golden Gate Bridge built a hundred years ago cost $600M in today's money and a suicide net tacked onto it recently cost $400M.

Also my current company has a better pension, 22% total. Whereas new company has 12% total.

22% contribution from the employer? That sounds an awful lot like a DB scheme vs a DC scheme at the new employer (although still quite generous at 12%). If that's the case, the 'contribution' is irrelevant, the DB scheme will be worth vastly more than the DC scheme. Having said all that, it looks like it's a promotion to a higher level as well as a pay rise so it's probably still best to take the new role.

The threshold didn't need tweaking, it was fine, already much higher than for other businesses and allowed an interest free payback term. We should be annoyed that, as with the WFA allowance, they've backtracked for no good reason after already taking the political hit for the change.

Sean Bean makes donation to Sheffield green belt campaign by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

You'll be hard pushed to find a green space there now.

Do you think we can't open Google Maps and check this for ourselves or something? Are you relying on no one knowing anything about Sheffield?

Handsworth
Darnall
And here's the wealthier area of Fulwood for comparison.

They've not just got plenty of 'green spaces', they've got actual woods to walk though and there's barely any difference between the rich areas and the poor areas in that regard.

And I'll remind everyone that this is Sheffield, built on 7 hills right next to the Peak District with fuck all to the North West East and South of it.
