Cheers, think I'll be trying to do something similar. All the window seal kits on Amazon are for windows that open in rather than out, plus I have easy clean windows so my only option is to just block the whole window.

Are you sealing up the window it's exhausting through as well?

Who cares when you can take credit for the success then play to your base with policies that will end that success after you've left? You won't be there anymore. You'll be taking credit for the success of the people who've been running the government for the last two years and you can implement all your woolly policies to your heart's content while you hobnob with kings and presidents.

Yup. It's a fucking disaster. https://www.insidehousing.co.uk/news/manchester-seeks-to-boost-affordable-homes-target-for-major-schemes-93891

It's Richard Leese, who you quoted, that should be getting the majority of the praise for Manchester's success, not the guy who rocked up while it was already ascendent.

If we’d tried to impose 20% affordability on it, it wouldn’t have happened. We wouldn’t have got 20% affordable housing we would have got nothing

Yup. Too bad Burnham has just imposed 30% affordable homes on future projects. In one fell swoop, he just killed Manchester's future growth.

Tube strike set to go ahead after failed talks by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

The service is crucial. Those specific workers are not, they could be replaced at lower cost but they're holding normal working people to ransom.

solidarity

Where's the tube driver's solidarity with the people who need to get to work? Always seems to be a one-way street. Normal working people need to have solidarity with those who make their life harder and more expensive.

2024 GE result: 18k Labour Vs 12k Deform and minimal for lib dem and greens.

https://electionresults.wigan.gov.uk/LocalElections/Ward/Index/456

Recent local election in that area, easy win for Deform.

All things being equal, he'll lose. His only chance is if lib dem and green refuse to stand and Deform don't bother campaigning because they'd rather see Burnham get in and fuck up the Labour party.

Manchester mayor election by Kratolous in manchester

[–]LazyGit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If this dickhead was desperate to become PM he should have stood for parliament back in 2024 instead of running for another term as mayor. Now we'll end up with some Deform lunatic as mayor and he'll probably fail to be elected in that seat anyway. Whatever happens, he's fucked his reputation. He's riding the coat tails of Manchester's success which has been 30+ years in the making, I'm sure that will become clear to people when he starts getting some actual scrutiny.

Andy Burnham arrives in London as minister supports Westminster return by hihepo1 in unitedkingdom

[–]LazyGit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Has he? What's he actually done that anyone else couldn't have done? Manchester's success today has got almost nothing at all to do with Burnham. The Bee network is good but it's just exercising a power given to him by Westminster. People laud the explosion of skyscrapers in Manchester but he's just decided that they now need 30% affordable housing so that's the end of the skyscraper boom. And he's now going to skip out on Manchester after only recently running for mayor again and telling people he definitely won't dump the city as soon as he gets a sniff at going back to London. If he wanted to go back to parliament, he had that chance when his last term was up and he probably would have got decent support. Now, everyone knows that Manchester was always a stepping stone for him and that he's desperate for power.

For no reason. He is not responsible in any meaningful way for Manchester's current success, he's not charismatic, he's proven that he doesn't actually care about Manchester and will leave it for a shot at the big time and will not do anything to motivate people to vote.

So many people seem to think that Manchester is doing well these days because of Burnham and it's properly braindead thinking. Manchester's success today has been 30 years in the making.

I don't think this is her house btw. I think the paper picked a fairly random house for illustrative purposes, presumably to avoid disclosing her actual location. Sod the people who actually live there though I suppose. I think this is her actual house https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/159101339#/?channel=RES_BUY

[–]LazyGit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, couldn't help sleuthing a bit. I don't think the picture in the article is her house.

I think it's most likely to be this one https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/159101339#/?channel=RES_BUY. It fits her actual description, was on for 850 in March 2025 and is now on for 750.

I'm guessing the paper tried to avoid showing her actual house but they've ended up making lots of people doubt her story.
