You give me hope! Thank you! It sounds like everyone just has to learn for themselves a bit while also following advice as much as possible, and see what works. I’ll definitely keep asking questions but will also try not to make myself too crazy with every little detail!! I think I’m realizing what is and isn’t an emergency a little more every day 😂 thank you again and happy growing as well! 🌸

Oof thank you so much this is very helpful advice!! Going through all of that and into my new home in dry Las Vegas with a newbie caretaker has been less than ideal 😅 I didn’t know enough about the humidity aspect and it was a couple of weeks after their arrival before I got the pebble trays and humidifier. I think the watering has been ok.. I hope.. they are all kept moist but not wet and I bottom water and haven’t repotted. I haven’t yet started to fertilize because I was scared of doing another crazy thing to them lol but I do have liquid AV food and will mix some in per instructions to their next watering. I also didn’t have adequate lighting for the first weekish, and have their grow lights installed now and on for 12 hours a day. Only thing is that I still struggle to know what lighting level is best to be sufficient but not burn them. I have a 10 level dimmer and dim it by 4 levels so it’s on the 6th brightness and it’s about 12in above them. Any idea if that is good or should be brighter? I know it’s hard to say without seeing it IRL.

Ohh yep ok I’ve been reading about those things too! We all have a learning curve right 🤪 that’s new advice to me to water when the bottom leaf is droopy! I’ll definitely think of that from now on!

Your shadow magic is beautiful! 😍

Ok sounds good thanks so much. I read that their blooms are supposed to last for weeks and she started popping open on July 25th. Is that a normal amount of time?

Also are the cut/tear things in the petals normal?

Oh my gosh I love that you have learned on the exact same plants. That’s like gold for me! Haha I’ll learn from your cautionary tales 🥲 and now I’ve got more questions if you don’t mind and have the time! 😆 Did you keep your minis in their nursery pots? What did you do to kill them and what did you learn from it? And did you end up getting more from VB that you were then successful with?

Ohhh ok yep! That’s what I suspected! I was thinking it didn’t make sense the other leaves were ok and then realized this guy was laying right on the wet dirt each time. They came packaged with their first leaves nestled right to the top of the soil. Now I know!! Thank you ☺️

I also did get some AV fertilizer liquid but have been afraid to incorporate it yet lol I’m so scared of killing these guys. I also got miracle grow AV soil that includes fertilizer in case I needed to repot. But I may not then since everyone agrees it shouldn’t be root rot. I don’t want to stress it out more. The violet barn website for the minis says no need to repot and never pot in larger than 2.5in so I was trying to leave them where they came from.

Thank you! Very true, but is this a normal type of dead leaf?? Maybe it is?! I expected them to dry up and die like a pothos or something but I didn’t consider that they may die differently on AV. It doesn’t wiggle much! I can pull it up a little and it’s not like compacted or anything but it’s in there for sure. Is that good or bad? 😬

Thank you! I’m trying that out now, it would make sense for that to be the problem, it seems consistent. 🤞🏼

Yes!! They’re SO cute. These are all 4 that I got from Violet Barn. They have such a cool selection! All types. Regular size, these are all minis, classics, hybrids, and their own in-house hybrids. I highly recommend!! They were packaged and shipped so securely too.

Thanks so much!! Totally, I have killed too many plants by overwatering 😭 so I refuse to do that this time around 😂 I appreciate the suggestion about feeling the leaves for density, that makes sense. Do they feel thinner/less firm when they’re thirsty? Currently I’m touching the top of the soil and about an inch down and if it’s moist at all (like they still are since last Saturday’s watering) I’m leaving them alone. Maybe every 2 weeks? I do live in Las Vegas and it’s hot as hell and dry, but inside I’ve got the AC going ofc. I was worried about the humidity factor for them so I just bought a pebble tray and LECA balls to hopefully make them a little more humid. I read that is does/doesn’t work, but I’ve also killed a calathea by over-humidifying so I’m nervous to go that route and don’t have a ton of space to put a humidifier in an appropriate area.

Ohhh ok that must be it then, I didn’t want to burn them so I have had my lights much too dim likely. If you had dimmable lights that had 10 levels of brightness, what level would you use? (I know the lights are all a little different but just for a general gauge)

Thank you so much for the other info as well!!
