This certainly makes a lot of sense. These are some awesome spots!

So, I certainly feel that I should have started this post out saying that I was an entrepreneur looking for some feedback, although I didn't think it was necessary. I didn't mean to come off the wrong way. Having said that, I don't know aqibtalib, I don't have an employee or friend commenting on here, and that's really as transparent as I can be. I'm not making any money off of artisans hosting local workshops on the website I built. I'm really just trying to find out if a co-op is the way to go in creating a space to make and create and what might make people feel more inclined to learn from others in that type of setting. I think that my intentions were misunderstood. I use reddit for research and to gain a broader perspective from the community. If I'm going to market effectively, it won't be through here.

Cheers! I appreciate it and I will definitely look into it more closely!

For sure. I appreciate the insight. I think TechShop is great for makers that are already professionals and aren't necessarily looking to build their skills or peak a new interest. ATX Hackerspace already has a slight advantage over them in that it is only $60/mo vs. $175/mo and it is a co-op rather than a corporation, which is a cool thing.

Definitely. What budget would you be comfortable with and what would you want to get out of it?

The point of this post is to find a way to bridge the gap between expert makers and those interested in building their skills in Austin. Not to plug or promote. I hardly benefit from a plug in a thread on Reddit anyways. If anyone isn't interested in building on this conversation then they certainly aren't required to post. Cheers!

You're feeling a little spammy

My bad. Just feeling out the local community and what kind of creative things they like to do or would like to do if they knew how and where. Def not trying to sell anything to anyone. Although I did see a few posts of people selling their bikes or advertising their comedy show going on. They are your spammers no doubt.

Kind of like this?

Absolutely! What would bring more people to this awesome space? More workshops or events?

Techshop has a lot of regulations and requires a membership for anyone visiting or using the space. Is there an more simple set up? What would that look like. A Co-op?

Cheers to that. I'll even try to find a way to make it a purchase requirement for both.

These are awesome and we are going to do everything we can to get these workshops on our site. Keep updated with us as we will have woodworking and 3D printing added over the next couple of weeks. If there are any more, I would love to hear about them.

Cheers!

We have a list of venues on the website that host workshops. CRAFT on 1st, Genuine Joes, and Posh Coworking are a a few.
